Wishing Well Mansions (new -- Mar 5)
« on: February 11, 2016, 12:03:41 PM »
INTRODUCTION

In a remote corner of the Ruins in Windenburg sits the Whispering Wishing Well. It waits patiently for its clients, knowing that they will be irresistibly drawn to its lair. They will ask for romance and money and success. Perhaps the Well will grant their requests and then again, perhaps not.

Three sims have moved into Newcrest with the intent of filling the town with their mansion-building heirs. Which one will win? Not even the Wishing Well knows.

Yes, another rival dynasty. All 3 heirs are going for the Mansion Baron option. But there's a twist. Someone from each household has to make a wish at the beginning of each week, and they can't repeat a wish until they've gone through all the choices except asking for life. Of course, if there's a ghost in the household, they can include that choice as well.

WISHING WELL MANSIONS

Matisse – A Wish for Romance

This is Rafe Matisse, our first rival with the desire to fill Newcrest with mansions.

Rafe: Can you tell me why I'm wearing a scarf when it's 20C?

Watcher: Because it's 20F where I am and there's snow on the ground. Besides, you're in Windenburg, and people wear scarves in Windenburg.

Rafe: And why am I in Windenburg when I live in Newcrest?

Watcher: Because the wishing well is in the Ruins there.

Rafe: I've heard about that thing – it gives you evil ghost children and takes all your money.

Watcher: It's not always bad. Sometimes you get good outcomes. Anyway, it doesn't matter, because you're going to go and wish for Romance.

Rafe: No.

Watcher: Sorry, but that's one of the conditions of being in this challenge. Once a week, you or someone in your household has to go and make a wish.

Rafe: Yeah, but I don't have enough money to make it happy. What if it decides to kill me?

Watcher: It won't kill you. Now go.

Rafe made his wish and was given a 4-hour flirty moodlet. "Go and paint the town pink," the wishing well told him. He didn't know anyone to flirt with, so he went to a coffeehouse.

Rafe: Watcher, everyone here is either married or male.

Watcher: Yeah, well it's Sunday morning. I guess all the women are still getting their beauty sleep. Why don't you go use that easel outside?

While painting, Rafe spotted a likely prospect in the distance, Ulrike Faust.

Watcher: Go, introduce yourself.

Rafe: Are you sure? Isn't she a member of the Renegades? I've heard about them – they're mean to people.

Watcher: You've got about 15 minutes left on that flirty moodlet. So quit arguing and go.

Rafe introduced himself and soon found out that Ulrike was creative and an art lover. Since he was too, they had a lot in common. Things were going well, and then Ulrike had to leave.

Rafe: What if I never see her again? What if I invite her over and she says she can't come?

Watcher: I have a very simple solution for that, but first, let's go back to the house.

The house, by the way, is Rustic Modern by @Playalot .

Rafe: Why are we putting easels in the kitchen/dining/living room?

Watcher: So that the members of your club will have a place to paint.

Watcher: Not only will you be able to make some money from their paintings, but guess who is one of the members.

Later...

Rafe: As you can see, that tiny bit of purple is enough to balance the mass of chartreuse on the left.

Adriana: Ooh, you are so talented!

Ulrike: Are you sure that's purple? It looks more like maroon to me.

Rafe: Yeah, well, either way it balances.

The next morning...

Rafe: Don't I get any privacy?

Watcher: You obviously haven't read any other dynasty stories. But relax, I won't usually take pictures of you in the shower. The reason I took this one is that I missed getting a picture when you set yourself on fire. How hard can it be to make scrambled eggs?

Watcher: Ulrike is going to be at work until 5 pm. I suggest you paint pictures until then – you're going to need to make some money to replace the counter and dishwasher. But at 5 pm sharp, you arrange to meet her somewhere and then ask her for a date.

The place where they met was another coffeeshop.

Rafe: I never thought I would meet anyone as interested in art as I am. It's like we're soulmates. I was wondering – if I texted you my phone number, would you text me yours in return?

Ulrike: Ooh, you kissed your phone before sending me the text. That's so cute! Here's my number.

One thing led to another and pretty soon there were fireworks.

Rafe: Privacy?

Watcher: One time only, promise.

Ulrike moved in, bringing her roommate Maaike Haas with her. With the additional money, Rafe added a bedroom for Maaike and a computer so that she could write her novels. Maaike immediately put a lock on the door.

Maaike: I'm not having people come in and play games on my computer when I want to write. Not to mention turning on my radio when I want to sleep.

Rafe and Ulrike: All right, all right.

Pretty soon the three housemates were getting together for breakfast every morning.

Watcher: Why so glum, Ulrike?

Ulrike: I flunked my pregnancy test. Again.

Rafe kept painting, and eventually had enough pictures so that he could move to the second level of the Mansion Baron aspiration. It was time to start landscaping.

Rafe: Don't you think you're overdoing it with the hollyhocks?

Watcher: You can never have too many hollyhocks. But I'll mix in some sunflowers for contrast.

At last the day came when Ulrike had some good news.

Rafe: You took the pregnancy test again? I thought we'd agreed that you wouldn't do that any more  because it just bummed you out.

Ulrike: Yeah, but this time I'm pregnant! Fifth time lucky!

She had to go to work then, but when she came home, Rafe went down on one knee and proposed.

Rafe: Well? Is it a yes or no?

Ulrike: I just want to make sure this is a proper diamond. Maybe I should look at it through a loupe.

Watcher: Say yes already. I don't want to watch poor Rafe to die of mortification.

Rafe finally picked up enough satisfaction points from working on the Painter Extraordinaire, Mansion Baron, and Soulmate aspirations to get the Connections reward. He started the Painter career at level 4.

Ulrike: I find it very annoying that you're starting at a higher level than me.

Rafe: That's the breaks, kid.

Ulrike: Plus your work uniform is better than mine.

Rafe: It could be worse. You could be wearing clown paint.

When they got home from work that evening they decided to get married. Ulrike took a moodlet solver to help her stay awake long enough for the ceremony. They invited Maaike and Adriana and the members of the Renegades. The Renegades sent their regrets – weddings weren't edgy enough for them. Maaike baked their wedding cake – which she left in the refrigerator.

Watcher: Forget the cake, Maaike. You have to sit and watch them exchange their vows.

At last Rafe and Ulrike were married.

And when they fed each other wedding cake, the Watcher breathed a sigh of relief. The wedding had received a gold medal – one party down, only two more to go.

Noble – A Wish for Fortune

Our next victim rival is Bianca Noble.

Watcher: Hello, Bianca. Where's the party?

Bianca: Oh, there's no party. I just like dressing in the style of my ancestors. I'm descended from the aristocracy, you know – the Hohenzollerns, to be specific.

Watcher: I hadn't realized. And how do you plan on achieving your aspiration to build a mansion?

Bianca: By doing what my ancestors did. I'll marry money.

Watcher: Good luck with that. The first thing you have to do though is go to the Wishing Well and make a wish. Probably the best thing is to wish for Romance.

Bianca: I don't think that's a good idea. If I do get my soulmate, he'll be homeless. The most cash he'll be able to bring in will be $20,000 – not nearly enough. I intend to ask for money.

Watcher: That hood over the Well's face is not a good sign.

Bianca: It took all my money! I only had 65 simoleons, but it took it all and gave me the Sadim moodlet. Who's Sadim, anyway?

Watcher: I believe that's Midas spelled backwards.

Bianca: I don't see why I have to dig up these rocks. I'll have you know this dress is an Yves St. Simant original.

Watcher: You need to have some cash on hand – unless you'd rather get a job.

Bianca: Oh, this is hopeless! It's 4 in the morning, and no one who is anyone is online. I'll never meet Mr. Right --

Watcher: Mr. Moneybags --

Bianca: -- at this rate.

Watcher: You'll feel better after you've had a croissant and met a few people. Let's go to the coffeeshop.

Bianca (to Katrina): I've heard that you live with a good-looking gentleman. Mind introducing me?

Katrina: Oh, you wouldn't be interested in Don. He's noncommittal, stressing out every time he takes a job. No, if you're looking for a wealthy husband, you might try Dennis Kim.

Bianca: Isn't he an elder?

Katrina: Or Malcolm Landgraab...

Bianca: He's still a teen.

Katrina: You could try seducing Mortimer Goth, but I have to tell you, you're no competition for Bella.

Bianca: Thanks, but it's against my moral values to break up a marriage.

Watcher: You could just go to someone's house and introduce yourself.

Bianca (to the Watcher): Scram. (to Travis): Hello, handsome!

Travis: Um, hello there.

Bianca: I must say, you're very nicely dressed, and I do mean that sincerely.

Travis: Thank you.

Bianca: Isn't this a beautiful morning? Don't you feel your day brightened already?

Travis: Um...

Later...

Bianca: Travis, I feel that you and I could be soulmates. Particularly if we lived together. Would you like to move in with me?

Travis: I should talk it over with my roommates.

Bianca: Oh, they could move in, too. The more the merrier.

Bianca: And if we lived together, we could kiss any time.

Travis: Yeah, yeah, let's do it!

And so Travis moved in with Bianca along with his housemates, Liberty Lee and Summer Holiday. And he and Bianca did more than just kiss.

Bianca: Watcher, you're worse than the paparazzi. Go away!

It didn't take Bianca long to make a few changes to her new house (built by Maxis), and to make a difference in the lives of her new housemates. She persuaded Travis to prepare for his job by doing a yoga routine.

Bianca: It will help widen those shoulders, dear.

She had Liberty get a haircut and some new clothes.

Bianca: And quit slouching!

And she encouraged Summer to quit her job as a dishwasher and take up painting.

She and Summer soon became friends.

Summer: And how do you plan to make money, Bianca?

Bianca: Oh, I'm not getting a job until after I have the baby. Maybe not even then.

Watcher: Ahem. I obviously need to draw your attention to the rules for the Rival Dynasty Challenge, to wit, the Founder must max a job.

Bianca: Excuse me, morning sickness!

Watcher: Now, who's going to clean up this mess.

Bianca: You could make Summer do it.

Watcher: She's busy painting. And Travis and Liberty are both at work.

Bianca: Call a repair person?

Watcher: They only fix toilets; they don't clean them. One of my moral values is that if people make a mess they should clean up the mess.

Bianca: I'll have you know, I'm descended from the Plantagenets.

Watcher: I thought it was the Hohenzollerns.

Bianca: Them, too.

It wasn't long before Bianca had a beautiful baby boy.

Bianca: Oo's mama's little baron? Oo's going to make lots and lots of money?

She took this picture of Emerson Noble herself – she's been taking lots of pictures lately.

Now that Bianca was slender again, she was ready to get married.

Travis:  Please don't let me die of mortification. Please say you'll marry me.

Bianca: Ah, this ring will do quite nicely.

Travis: You still haven't said...

Bianca: Yes! Yes, I'll marry you!

In the meantime, Summer was putting finishing touches on the wedding cake.

For some reason Bianca and Travis didn't change into their formals for the wedding...

Unlike their son Emerson, who aged up while the party was going on. It was a gold medal party, of course.

After their guests left, Bianca regaled him with the story of the first unicorn.

Bianca: "And the first unicorn told King Charlemagne that she would always be his friend." You're descended from King Charlemagne, you know.

Emerson: Am I really?

Darwin – A Wish for Romance

Our final rival is Mara Darwin.

Mara: You forgot to say that I'll be the eventual winner.

Watcher: Oh? How did you reach that conclusion?

Mara: It's the only logical outcome. I'm a genius, and I'll pass that trait on to my descendants. Ergo, the Darwins will win.

Mara's house is Creole Cottage, designed by @reggikko .

Fortunately Mara had enough simoleons left after buying the house to make an offering or two, as the Well was not in a good humor when they arrived.

Well: ...dynasty founders...spending all their money on houses of all things...no respect...no respect...

Watcher: I put up a mirror in case someone gets a really bad moodlet.

Mara: The logical thing to do would be to leave it alone, just saying.

Watcher: Sorry, but this is something you have to do. Give it some money, maybe that will make it happy.

The Well was in a better mood by the time Mara had given it $2000, but it still gave her a fright.

The red light turned into a column of gray smoke.

Out of the smoke stepped a young man.

Watcher: I'm sorry, Mara. Maybe you can find someone at the coffeeshop.

Mara: Are you kidding? He's gorgeous. Totally despicable, but gorgeous. (to Skyler) Are you Jamaican? 'Cause you're Jamaican me crazy.

Skyler (batting eyelashes): I was just going to ask you that.

Skyler is squeamish, jealous, and romantic. It took the better part of Sunday morning, but Mara eventually developed enough liking for Skyler to invite him to her house. Identifying constellations helped.

Well: Now that's what I like to see – people who are happy when I grant their wishes.

Watcher: Then why don't you do that more often? Oh, never mind.

Mara was so tired she had to get some sleep at the house. But when she awoke, Skyler serenaded her. She was so pleased that she was able to ask him to move in.

They celebrated by buying a new bed and making the feathers fly.

Mara: Watcher! Can we have some privacy?

Watcher: Honestly, don't any of you read the contract? First woohoo gets photographed. End of discussion.

Money was very tight at first, especially because they got a bill for $771 on Monday.

Mara: I thought you said we wouldn't have to pay taxes at first.

Watcher: You shouldn't have to. A glitch in the game engine made a mistake.

Mara: I bet that Well had something to do with it.

Watcher: Nevertheless, you have to pay. Skyler needs electricity so he can write his books.

Mara sold a couple of paintings so she could buy a wood-working table.

Mara: I like using a knife. It gives me a feeling of power. I'm going to become a chef so I can use knives all the time.

Watcher: Just be careful with that thing. Your mid-section sticks out more than usual.

Yes, Mara was pregnant.

Mara: Ohhh!

She and Skyler had scraped together enough simoleons to buy a bassinet for the baby.

Mara: I said, "Ohhh!" A little attention here?

It turned out that Mara was pregnant with twins.

While she went to bed, Skyler came in to show off his new daughters: Gabriella, the heir...

...and Angela, her sister.

Gabriella (at the table) loves the outdoors, and Angela (on the bed) is creative. They both have the Artistic Prodigy aspiration so they can make lots of money from painting.

Early Saturday morning Angela was watching a movie with Skyler.

Angela: I don't like the frog aliens. Their eyes are too big.

Skyler: I don't like frogs at all, honey.

Angela: The robot's one of the good guys so he's going to beat the frog. That's what will happen, isn't it?

Skyler: I don't like this part. Let's go outside and look at the clouds.

We leave them with Mara reading to Angela from Skyler's book, Pat the Weasel, while Gabriella works on a drawing.
