The Kleptomaniac Trait
« on: February 04, 2016, 05:19:11 PM »
I loved this trait in The Sims 3 and couldn't wait to try it out now.
The option to swipe something is active anytime of the day, not just at night like it was in Sims 3 and you click on the item you want to take instead of the floor and them taking something at random.
The option resets after 4 hours and when it is available if you leave your sim alone it don't take long from them to swipe something on their own. They really like to steal.
There's two new chat items available that I've noticed. Under Mischief you can Ask about prized possessions and under Friendly there's Enthuse about thrill of the steal.
Some items you can't take are toys, beds, dressers, bathroom items (toilet, shower, etc) cooking items (stove, fridge, counters, grill)  skill items (easel, woodworking bench and workout equipment) but you can take musical instruments. You can't take a table but you can the chairs around it. Items have to be on the active lot, you can't take items around the neighborhood.
Some items you can take are electronic items, decor items, outdoor plants like flowers and bushes but not trees, chairs and couches.

Edit: Forgot to add when they swipe something they get the moodlet of Exhilaration Steal, Energized +1 for 4 hours.
I haven't found out what happens if they get caught yet. My sim has a mischief of 8 and stole a TV while 2 people where watching it without getting caught. :D I'll have to try it with a new sim and see what happens.

Edit again. Made a new sim and when you got caught he got a moodlet of Got Caught, Embarrassed +2 for 8 hours

And with out any mischief skill the only thing he could try to take in the Landgraab house was small decor items or table lamps. So I guess the higher your mischief skill the better the items you can try to swipe.

It seems the moodlet you get for swiping something can vary in time depending on the price of the item you take also.
Like my sim swiped a roll of toilet paper and the moodlet lasted 2 hours, he swiped a painting and it lasted 4 hours and swiped a computer and it lasted 8 hours. And he couldn't attempt to swipe again until the moodlet wore off.

If you have a club where all the members are in your household on club activities under Mischief and Mayhem there is a option to swipe items and anyone in your household club can swipe a item even if they don't have the klepto trait.

This is great! I probably won't have a chance to try this out today so thanks for sharing! It sounds really fun.

@grimsoul
Well, I hope that inspires you to do a story for a No Buy Mode project, hahaha.  I would love to see who you chose to be in that club!  Malcolm has to be in it!

I wonder if there will be plans to make the law enforcement career more robust. It might bring some complication, that some may not want, but it could also make things interesting. I think Geoffrey Landgraab is in law enforcement, while Nancy is in a criminal career. In fact, that IS probably too complicated, unless they can simplify the interactions. Maybe, a Sim offender could get a fine & get their mischief knocked down one level, (or a certain amount of points, according to the severity of the crime) to represent jail.

I've never been one for writing a story, but I'm sure one of the great writers on here will do one. :)

@Playalot Your one of those great writers I was talking about. I bet you could do a good one. ;)

I still haven't figured out the part of returning a item like it mentions in the patch notes. I wonder if you have to get a whim to be able to do that.

I took my sim over to the Landgraab house and just him left alone to see what goodies he might decide to swipe for his house. Did he go for a TV, a radio or a painting? NO, The first thing he did was walk over and swipe a plate with 7 hot dogs left that Nancy had grilled. And he wasn't even hungry.  ???
I didn't know what to think. Of all the stuff in the house he takes a plate of hot dogs. I don't think I have the brightest sim out there.

Do the sims randomly swipe things when left alone? Can you also direct them to swipe specific items?
