I wrote "a means of death" to simplify the explanation. This is what Schrodinger wrote:

A cat is penned up in a steel chamber, along with the following device (which must be secured against direct interference by the cat): in a Geiger counter, there is a tiny bit of radioactive substance, so small that perhaps in the course of the hour, one of the atoms decays, but also, with equal probability, perhaps none; if it happens, the counter tube discharges, and through a relay releases a hammer that shatters a small flask of hydrocyanic acid. If one has left this entire system to itself for an hour, one would say that the cat still lives if meanwhile no atom has decayed. The psi-function of the entire system would express this by having in it the living and dead cat (pardon the expression) mixed or smeared out in equal parts.

I'm tickled pink that my little analogy is fun for some of you too! I'm especially happy that my original post didn't die alone. This forum is indeed full of bright, curious, intelligent people!

Me too.  I think it's super that we can discuss something like this here.  And I am very glad you thought to post it, LlamaMama.

My first multi-generational game family I had these things happen –

The founder John Allen and his wife Kaylynn had a son - and after High school I took over the son’s life, and moved out; leaving John and Kaylynn in the house they had built and expanded.

John was the emperor of evil, Kaylynn was a stay at home painter (pre-ambitions), and the income stream was really high when I moved the second generation sim out.

Eventually I visited ‘my parents’ and John had been demoted to level 9 of the criminal career and Kaylynn was in the music industry, though she had completed her Life time wish when I was still controlling the household. They also had 2 more sons on their own, who were virtually identical to the first son I was now playing out.  No cribs in the house, and I didn’t see the sons until the teenage stage.

There was also a story progression moment where my current sim was sleeping.  A cinematic started.  John and Kaylynn were robbed of everything in their home.  That is the only time I got to see a cinematic event in the game.  I even had left the burglar alarm for them.  I visited the next day off that I had, and their house was refurnished.

Not completely related- but same families and part of the progression:

My new sim had met and married Sandy French. We invited his parents and her Mom Molly for a party.  Molly passed away during the party.  River was there and she, Sandy, and my new sim all were crying; and John and Kaylynn who both had the evil traits laugh were fiendishly delighted.

Incidentally, I never did see any dead or living cats in any boxes in the game  ;)  just kidding...

@John Allen:

What exactly do you mean by a cinematic?

My Sim was sleeping, not really a full cinematic iterrupt like in other games; but what happened was:

2nd gen sim was asleep
got a notification in dialogue box that pops up in the upper right hand corner.
the camera auto panned over to the residence of the 1st gen sim and family
a burglar was just fleeing
It showed the first gen sim and wife and 2 sons upset and the house was completely empty

after that i evetually had to cancel and re-center back on my current sim

So, you're saying that the family with the burglar was not your active household?  I don't see why the game would pan over to a household that you don't control.  I've never heard of burglars taking more than two or three items, either.  Has it happened again?  I don't suppose you have screenshots?

I think the "completely empty" part of the story is probably the usual empty house that non-controlled sims have, as we've been discussing.

So, you're saying that the family with the burglar was not your active household?  I don't see why the game would pan over to a household that you don't control.  I've never heard of burglars taking more than two or three items, either.  Has it happened again?  I don't suppose you have screenshots?

The only other time where the game took control of the camera was after a meteor.  The burglar thing was like that- the camera panned out and over; but went to the nonactive, previous household.  And no, have not seen that kind of thing since.

Another thing about the burglar thing is- household items took a while to pop up at times on the old laptop I had, and maybe they just weren't populated;  because 2 days later when i visited the house, it was furnished.  I had just been playing for about 2 weeks and at the time and didn't think it was unusual.

And LlamaMama may be right- that the house appeared that way. Which would support her observation on the game; and LlamaMama good catch- I never would of that to check out that kind of thing in the game.

Sometimes I think the camera is grabbed and pulled to the side, when it turns out the mouse has just drifted or been accidentally nudged. Maybe a combination of events made it seem to you like something weird was up. It's kind of fun to think it did, regardless. :)

Just something I'd like to add to the discussion- What about the sims that get married and have kids on their own? When I have kid sims I've raised to a certain point, I get them a spouse or good friend, and kick them out, instead of setting them up in a house. Soon, I'll read the paper and discover they've married someone else and had a kid or two. It's just amazing to me that they do all this interaction on their own, yet when they go home, they just stand inside their house.

One game that I played, townie Constance Shelley in Riverview had 5 kids with Bob Newbie! I thought it was interesting because she's an absent-minded bookworm with no romantic traits at all. Maybe Betty turned on him and they became united in loneliness.  :P

Also, will Story Progression let Sims advance in their carrer? I'm playing the Altos and Holly decided to buy off the book store and run off with what remains of the family fortune  ;D but I want her parents to get to the stop of their carrers and fufill their LTW.
