Transfiguring problem
« on: November 15, 2010, 08:21:58 AM »
My sims got a huge number of iron ingots with transfiguring and the Carter's Display Case XL Edition can't be used for transfiguring anymore (click "activate irreversible transfiguration" but no response).
I've try different combination of metal ingots but the results are same.

Attachment: result of transfiguring.
Now I realize playing the Sims 3 on Mac is playing the game of installation and uninstallation...

Yes, already tried. But the result doesn't change.

Why are you stacking them all in a single pile?

You always get a single stack of ingots when you get more than one from transfiguring them, so that may be just the way they came out.

As for only getting iron, I recently tested different metals and got varying numbers of iron ingots plus a large ingot of the metal I used.  Late Night must have changed the formulas when they added the new metals.

The output of the formula that defines what comes out of miscellaneous transmutation (that is, not something that gives a fixed value like skull cuts or supernovium) depends on the number of items on the relevant list, so the output of a mix of metals depends on how many different metals are out there. My best bet is that late night added a metal, thus trashing the formula you were using.

My question about the stack of iron was mostly me wondering if what you are trying to do is to put a single stack of lots of iron and nothing else and trying to transmute it.

TG I think I can answer that question since the same problem just happened to me.  I added two each of silver, gold, platinum, paladium and one each of mercury.  My result was one small compendium and a huge stack of iron.  I had not added any iron at all.
Obviously Carter's has been changed, or the formulas have been changed.  Since I don't have a large amount of ore, I won't be able to play test and find the correct formulas, if there even is such a thing.  I do have a lot of gems so will try those and see what happens but I think Carter's is badly glitched.  The other result I got from transfiguration this time around is my Sim is frozen and absolutely refuses to move in any way.  Since this is my dynasty Sim I am definitely not amused.  There have been nothing but problems since Late Night and it has gotten really old.

Actually, if you stacked metals for any reason during that transmutation, it is perfectly normal that you received random metal ingots, what is curious is that it now seems to produce only iron.

Exactly TG.  Before you would get random mummitomium, plutonium, platinum, whatever and maybe even ONE bar of iron.  Now it's a huge, and worthless, stack of iron.  So here is what I've found with what I had, (and it was more than I thought I had).  With gems the normal get a skull or get a large cut is the same.  With single stacks of random metals you get compendium.  It doesn't seem to matter if you have four of one metal and different amounts of other metals.    If you put in one kind of metal only, you get a large bar of that metal.  So nothing has changed there.  It is only when you stack more than one high that you get a problem.  I have not tested it with maybe one stack of something and all the rest singles but no more getting several compendium at a time by stacking metal bars.  I also did not test large bars stacked though I did test single layers of large bars and got a large compendium.

That sounds about right, so transmutation works, but the wee bit of the code that dealt with stacked metals now only barfs iron

I find they don't work when I stack metal. If I remove the metal and put 1 ingot per spot then only does it transfigure properly. Maybe that helps.

Or did you mean you cannot remove the stack at all?

Exactamundo.  I think it may be something they fixed, since you are supposed to pay per transfiguration and by stacking you are actually getting more than one.  So it's back to do one compendium at a time with a single layer of metal.  As long as that part works I'm personally not that unhappy.
