Save game won't finish loading

Hey all --

So I've had this problem in the past, but it's escaping me how I've fixed it. My save game just won't load all the way! It'll get to the very end, and then it just stops dead in its tracks. It's a pretty large file, so generally when it takes a while at the very end I let it sit for a while and it'll finish. Problem being it's not finishing, of course.

I'm thinking its related to what was going on before I closed it last -- I got up from my desk with the game still running for a bit longer than I intended (no more than an hour and we're talking a pretty strong computer here) and when I came back the game was running slow (on speed 3 going slower than speed 1, you know the deal). I closed the game to see if a restart would help, as it usually does, but now we're here.

Anyone have an idea? I've cleared the cache and that hasn't seemed to work. I would love any suggestions!

Try loading another save file? Does it take a long time to load or will it even load?

What I do when I've got a slow or forever loading game is try a factory reset.

The other thing I usually do is save my family and their house, take them into a new game of the same town they were originally in.

You could do this in a new game for testing purposes too.

Other saves load, as do new games, perfectly fine. Seems to just be this one save. Huh. Not sure how to debug a save I can't get into!

Can you go back to a previous save?

It is, tragically! I don't think I have a previous save, either. I did install a couple mods yesterday, but the game loaded with them earlier today and functioned fine while it was running. Hmmm.

That tells me that you might want to try loading the game without those mods installed? Even though it loaded fine earlier today, doesn't mean it will every time. As sometimes mods will do some wonky things to our games.

Tried without all of the new mods -- no dice. Not sure about this one.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to do either. Do you know of a place like mediafire or drop box that you can upload and share the file?  Maybe we can have a look see at it? I don't know if we'd be able to load it either. But I'm willing to give it a try.

Checked out my mods and CC today with the various tools designed for that purpose, for sure they're all fine. Weird.

Decided to see if my computer did have a previous version -- it did, from the last time I played, hurrah -- and loaded up, although painfully slowly. Perhaps I can fix it from within now. xD
