Or you may need to resize the sims screen size

To clarify a bit more, it's at the top right corner and looks like a wrench and hammer crossed. When you click on this, the top option on the left is build, then there are other options for the type of build like rooms and then buy options. It can be a bit confusing at first, but you'll learn.

To clarify a bit more: you have to be on the lot that you want to build on, which at this time is your home lot or your retail lot if you own Get To Work. To build on a community or other lot you will need to use manage worlds, which is accessible from the menu (the 3 dots in a row at the top right corner)

@Magpie2012  The build button is active even on community lots, vacant lots and residential lots that no is living on so you can edit those without using manage world.
If someone is living on the lot you need to either use manage world or have your sim visit the lot and use the bb.enablefreebuild on cheat. I like using the cheat myself so I can come in and out of build mode and have my sim there to test any changes I made to make sure all items work and can be reached.

There is a lot in the hidden areas also (Sylvan Glade, Forgotten Grotto and the Hermit's house) you can edit with the build cheat.

Seriously, that's so cool! I remember on TS3 you could only edit any other lot is you either owned it or went into edit world mode!

Thanks for letting me know that :-) come to think of it, the only properties I've tried to edit were occupied, so that's probably what went wrong...

@Magpie2012  After thinking about it I believe at first you did have to use manage world to edit any lot but your own. Then they added the build cheat you could use and then later it got to where you could build on most lots with out the cheat. I don't remember a patch note about it, I just noticed the build button was active when I was visiting one of the parks. After traveling some I figured out you could edit community lots and residential lots that nobody lived on.
You probably got use to using manage world and just never noticed the change. I'm not sure how long it was before I noticed it.

Possible! I haven't tried to edit any other lots than my own since very early in the base game! Thanks for explaining, Luv :-)
