Chapter 4: Where to Go From Here
Leighton's POV Part 2Hey there, Leighton again. I read over what Delphy had made out of my scribbles, and I'm surprised how good it was. So because of that, I'm going to write some more. Again, Delphy's probably going to look through this before any of you guys will see it, so it will sound a lot better than I ever could make it to be. I've been told it's for our children and grandchildren, but I have a feeling that this is therapeutic for Delphnia. I'll do anything to help her, since she has a lot on her shoulders. So, I guess I better start before I get sidetracked.Remember who you are, Leighton. Remember us. Remember...I woke up in a flash, the sound of her voice still ringing in my ears. Remember...? What did she mean? All of the past day's events came flooding back as I slowly got up out of bed, and already my head was starting to hurt. This was madness. At that point, I didn't care what was going on, I just wanted everything to go back to normal. I didn't care who this Adrianna person was or how she made me feel, or even how Delphnia made me feel. It was too much. I wanted out. I couldn't take it. Or so I thought.
Because of this, I was a bit more grumpy than I should've been. I didn't ask for any of this, yet here I was. It was so crazy, I couldn't even begin to wrap my head around it. All I knew was that it was important. At least to someone. And at the very least, I should try my best to help them. What else can I do?
I turned to see Dephnia walking out of the bathroom. She had dark circles under her eyes. Maybe the couch wasn't the best place in the world to sleep. "Morning," I said as I walked over to her. "How are you?" I asked even though I knew the answer.
"I'm alright," she said, rubbing her eyes. They were slightly red, as if she had been crying. "Just a little tired. Didn't get much sleep..."
"I can see that," I pointed out before immediately regretting it. She really did look tired. "Listen, I thought about it last night... No matter what's going on, I'm sure it's happening for some reason. I have absolutely no clue what to think or believe. But, for some reason, I know I can trust you."
She looked at me confused for a few seconds before sighing with relief. "Thank you." Before I could ask, she said, "I thought you might've been thinking of kicking me out or something. Stupid, I know, but I got kinda scared." She rubbed her arm nervously as her gaze dropped to the floor. "I don't know, I guess...I like it here. It's nice to have some company. Especially....well, with you."
I blushed and thanked her for the compliment. It dawned on me why I had began to like her. She looked so sweet even when sleep-deprived; yet I knew there was a strength in her that I don't think even she knew of yet. I rubbed my neck and chuckled. "Well it's nice having you here too. And hey, I'm sorry about freaking you out last night. I don't know what came over me..."
"It's alright," she said cheerfully. "I thought about it too. This Adrianna person you thought I was must've been very important to you. I shouldn't have been so harsh-"
"You weren't harsh at all. I was the one freaking you out-"
"Don't worry about it. We're all a little confused at the moment."
I scoffed. "That's an understatement..."
We stood there in silence for a moment, both of us trying to figure out what to say next. She beat me to it. "Do you want to come over?"
I raised one of my eyebrows in confusion. "I'm sorry, what?"
"Do you want to come over?" she repeated. "To the lot, I mean. I...I remember you started talking about 'her' when I mentioned that place. Maybe...you'll figure something out when we get there."
I could see the logic in that. And I figured it was my best shot at getting closer to the truth. "Sure. Let's go."
She smiled, then looked down and giggled. "Umm...can I ask you something?"
"Sure, what's up?"
"Do you mind putting some pants on before we go?"
"Oh yea, sure. Give me a few minutes."
I quickly put on some clothes and got the car running. Dephnia got into the passenger seat and sighed. "Nice ride," she teased. I had to laugh. I don't think there was a junkier car on the market, but it was all I could afford.
"Why, thank you. I get a good 35 miles an hour on the highway," I teased back. She giggled and plopped her elbow next to the window, leaning her head onto her hand. The sunlight caught the chocolate brown streaks in her hair, lighting up her face as we drove up the hill. We sat in silence for awhile before I asked, "So, any plans now that you're here in town? What do you plan to do?"
She thought about it for a moment before answering, "I have a few things on my mind. Need to build a house first. Have to get a job as well. Do you know any good places to work?"
It was my turn to think. "Well, I'm in the sports industry. I teach little kids how to play different sports. I know they're always looking for new employees. There's the bookstore and spa, but they only employ part-time. I heard they need more journalists as well..."
"It's okay," she cut me off. "I'm sure I'll find something..." Another long silence followed. "Other than that, I'm not so sure... Been thinking of starting a garden. Don't know why, but that to me seems like something I would like to do."
I smiled. "Well there's nothing better than a freshly grown tomato on a warm day. Sounds like a good plan."
"Thanks. I hope it is. Oh, we're here."
We both got out of the car and looked out over the grassy field before us. "That's a lot of land," I commented.
She shrugged. "It is. But I'm sure I'll find a way to use it." She glanced over the plot with a glimmer in her eyes. She truly was beautiful. Watching as she looked out at her future, her new home, I could feel determination building up inside me. I wanted to be a part of this woman's life, in some way.
"Hey."
I called her out of her thoughts and looked deep into her eyes. What I was about to say next, I wanted her to know I was completely serious. I took a deep breath, stared at her bewildered face, and began speaking my heart.
"Look, I know this has been a weird and rough day, day and a half, for you. Trust me, it has been for me too. But like I've said before, I know I can trust you. You've proven to be a lot stronger than anyone I've ever met. You're gorgeous, kind, smart, sweet... Man, I can't believe someone like you would've just fallen into my life. And even though it's been such a short time, I feel like I've known you forever.
"I know what you're thinking, 'What about this whole Adrianna business?'. I honestly have no idea either. It's all been such a blur. I don't know what's real and what's not anymore. And honestly, I couldn't care less. Because right now, all I want to focus on is you." I could feel a smile growing across my face. "You remind me so much of her. I don't even know her and yet...I feel like I do. Because I know you.
"Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe this is all some mental illness I have in my head. But if it is, I don't want it to end just yet. I don't want to give up on you and who you are. You're the first person in my life that has given me a chance to do something with my life, even if it's the most convoluted, strange, and absolutely crazy thing to ever do. I want to help you. I want to see you do great things in your life, grow old with so many different accomplishments under your belt. I know you can do it. I believe in you."
I took her hand, craving the soft warmth radiating from it. Delphnia, a strong yet delicate flower of a woman. Adrianna, a mysterious yet fascinating person. Whether they were one and the same, or two completely different people, it didn't matter. In that moment, I intended to find my own way to answers. Whoever this Adrianna woman was, I knew I would find out eventually. But I wasn't going to get anywhere by living out my life the way I have been. I needed a change. And she was standing right in front of me.
"Delphy..." The nickname came out as smooth as her skin on mine, tasting like honey on my lips. I chuckled as I saw her glance away, her cheeks flushing slightly. I squeezed her hand a bit tighter and told her softly, "If you want me to...I will stay by your side. We can get through this together. I know you're just as confused as I am. But we can figure this out. I know if we put our heads together, we can accomplish anything. Delphy...I want to be with you."
My free hand gently lifted her chin, turning her head towards mine. I smiled, trying to put her at ease. I was sure she could hear my heart beating out of my chest. For a split second, her eyes turned a bright blue, another vision overtaking my mind. Yet I was determined to finish what I had started. I leaned my face in closer to hers, whispering softly, "I love you..."

And so ends another chapter! This one was very sweet in my opinion. Everything will be explained as time goes on, so if any of you are still unsure what's going on, it's confusing on purpose. Also as an update, I've installed the expansions I have onto this computer, so I'll be playing with those from this point on. I have Pets, Seasons, Generations, and World Adventures as of right now. I also have Showtime, but I don't particularly like that expansion, so I'll be skipping that one. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this chapter and stay tuned for the next one! Peace <3
