Moving a Sim Out?
« on: October 28, 2015, 03:32:24 PM »
Hi, I believe that to move a single sim out of a household, we go to manage world/the hood we want, then the house we want, select "manage family," then "switch between households" or something like that, don't have the game up at the moment, then select the sim you want to move out. I have a sim who was originally a co worker. At first my sim could not invite him over, but just call and text him. The next time she went to work, at the end of the work day, I made him a member of the family. Now, using the above method, I cannot move him out at all. The arrow, once I select him is grayed out. Any suggestions? He is an alien if that helps. Could it be that we again have non touchable npc sims like TS2 days? Maybe the file is just corrupted somehow?

I'm going to throw this out here because I've done it more times than I'd like to admit, resulting in trying to figure out what's broken (my memory, apparently) .... When you have the current family in the box on the left side, above the right-hand box there is a button you must use to create a new household.  Be sure you've created a new household or the "move over" arrow will stay grayed out.  (You can pick a family for them to move into instead, but I never do that.)

Thanks Steelace! I'll give it a try. Is it normal though that she could not invite him over during off work hours?

Sorry, I can't answer that.  I usually play with created sims and their offspring only.  I haven't tried doing anything with the co-workers who aren't played sims to know what's normal or not.

Yep, this is normal, if a sims at work they can't be invited over. :) If the sim wasn't at work this can also be normal as the game sometimes makes then 'busy'. You can always try the 'travel with' interaction as often they will travel with you even though they won't come over. If they travel with you... you can then chat and invite them to home lot. etc

Thanks Playalot! However, I'm finding that we can't move sims from a household into an empty house! I've not discovered it yet anyway. I tried the phone, but the only option on there is to move the whole family, I tried manage world/manage household and there is not option there either to move a sim to an empty house. I wanted a sim to start his own household, but I guess not. I have to create a sim and move them into the house first. :(  I can look at the guide and see what it says. The only way I can do it so far though is by moving him to a different household.

I'm pretty sure there is an option using Manage Worlds to make/create a new household as part of the moving process. Not near my game until tomorrow, sorry, but I will check that out then and post back.

*Edited: You should check out Carls guide, he talks about the 'Pick a New Household' option too. I'm really sure this option is part of the moving out process.

Yes, I just read the guide and "create new household" works and just choose the house you want them in. Still trying to learn this.
