Chapter 5

Then it was time. Perry looked like an angel.

Vin had set up the arch next to the graveyard so that dad could be part of the celebrations. I mean, I knew he wasn't really here in person, but in spirit. It was important to me and Perry didn't have any objections.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Vin trying it on with Victoria. Honestly, I don't know what he was thinking. Those two weren't even remotely suited. I mean, Vin and Vic... pahlease. That's just never gonna work. Besides I think Cassy might have her eyes on Vin. Only he's too thick to notice. Besides I'm pretty sure Victoria didn't even notice Vin's attempt at impressing her anyway.

I was so busy looking at my beautiful angel once the ceremony started that I didn't have time to see what happened next. But I remember Peter hissing instructions about putting the ring on Perry's finger and not the ground! Perry took the ring from me gently and placed it on her own finger. Everyone laughed but in a nice way, like you do when you're with family.

And then we were man and wife. I was complete. Everything I had ever wanted was wrapped up in that woman.

Eventually we all moved inside and the celebrations continued. We had a problem with the cake which at the time really frustrated me. For some reason neither Perry or I could take the first piece. It was a mystery. I decided that this was another omen but once again, I had no idea what it meant. I baked many more cakes hoping that the next one would be the right one. It didn't happen.

In the end it didn't really matter. Perry caught my eye and in that moment I knew what was important.

As Perry chatted away to Vin, who was scoffing into his second helping of the caterer's pancakes, a terrible, overwhelming sense of jealousy overtook me. The feeling threatened to engulf me. I didn't understand it. Is this what love does? Makes it unbearable to see your beloved even talking to another person? I stared at them talking quietly and laughing over something Vin said. I remember swallowing down the jealousy and blinking.

I left the room and slipped away into the cool night air. No one missed me as everybody was mingling and chatting happily.

I whispered my fears to dad. He looked like he was almost about to tell me something important.

"i thought I'd find you here!" Vin called out, shattering the moment. I remembering grimacing and agreeing that Vin always knew how to find me.

He wrapped his big brotherly arms around me and just for a moment I hung on. Wanting that security.
"Come on, there's a party going on, don't cha know?" He grinned. We walked back in, side by side.

Victoria and Bella were telling me some girly home truths about marriage. I think they were trying to shock me but it was never going to work as both of them are real ladies, far too lovely to say anything I hadn't heard before. Their ribbing was lighthearted and fun. Like them

It rapidly became a bit grosser by the time a few of the fellas had joined in the conversation. I don't think Bella particularly enjoyed the guys humor. We probably were letting it all hang out a bit by then anyway. It had been a long night.

Much later, once all the good byes had been said, Perry and I found each other.

Even though we didn't have much, I was looking forward to carrying my angel over the threshold.

But that was when things became heated. Perry didn't like me kissing her in public and had no qualms in telling me so. She saw red. I saw stars.

We were still arguing hours later as we were trying to get ready for bed. I'd had enough. I was exhausted, hurt, confused. Maybe a little angry... but disappointed for sure. I just wanted some sleep.

I grabbed Perry and kissed her.

We made up.

I was so exhausted that I feel asleep immediately.

I didn't know... I didn't see....

I didn't even feel my angel being taken from me forever. It perplexed me that my heart didn't break right at that moment...

It was only a heart beat later when I knew that it had broken completely.

Grim told me not to take it personally and I clearly remember him explaining that this was the reason that most May-December marriages didn't last long. His words did nothing to assuage my heart break. It was complete. In that moment there was just nothing left.

Chapter 6

Officer Beadle: Got ya pretty boy all locked up there yet, Detective Parker?
Parker: Nope.
Officer Beadle: Probs just as well, the holding cells full.

Parker: *Sigh* I just don't have time to process all this lot. I've got bigger fish to fry...

Kurt: Am I being arrested?
Parker: Nope, just held for further questioning.
Kurt: But I haven't done anything wrong. None of any of this was my fault. Well, it was my fault... I just didn't... I didn't...

Kurt: Oh I can't do this. I... can't.

Parker: The quicker you start telling the story, the quicker we get to sortin' it.
Kurt: There's no point. You've already got me down as guilty.
Parker: No I haven't. I'm after the truth just as much as you are. So start talking Moody.

Parker: What happened next?
Kurt: I don't know exactly... I don't remember much more of that day...

Parker: Well tell me what you do remember.
Kurt: Ummm... I.... Vin came over... No... not right away...

Chapter 7

I was exhausted, wrung out emotionally and physically. I couldn't bear to go back into the bedroom where... So I brought my angel out and put her near me while I napped on the couch.

I just couldn't get over losing her like this. I wept bitterly blaming myself and yet I didn't know... how could anyone have known this would happen.

I called Vin some time later.

The wait seemed interminable.

Vin encouraged me to let my grief out.

Then did his best to comfort me and offer me some hope for the future.

In many ways we were as sad as each other. I was grieving for the loss of my beloved spouse. Vin for the loss of his carefree little brother.

I don't have many more memories of that night. At some point Vin convinced me to sleep in the bedroom and to slip into unconsciousness was a blessing after the nightmare the day had been.

The next morning I felt calmer and was able to order my thoughts and plan the day out.

I had two days worth of fishing quota to catch so I headed off as soon as I was ready.

The calm sweep of the current as it swirled past was mesmerizing and my thoughts slowed down to match it's lazy pace along the riverbed. I let go of my tension and left it to be swept away.

I called Vin in between baiting my hook, just to let him know I was managing, coping, getting on with what needed doing.

I decided to try upstream just a little. I'd had good luck there before.

I caught the eye of a young lady fishing.

It seemed rude not to swap pleasantries in the form of fishing tales. She was so vibrant, full of life, energetic. It made me feel alive just to watch her talk.

We spoke for ages and I told her a little of what I'd been through.

So was so sweet and understanding. Compassionate and thoughtful. I could feel my heart mending back together as we stood getting to know each other.

She reached out and grabbed me into a hug and told me that while she couldn't truly understand what it must have been like for me she could at least sympathize.

As strange as it seems, talking to her made me feel great. Like I could conquer the whole world by myself. It was invigorating, thrilling.

Quite simply, I liked who I was when I was with her.

I knew in that moment that Kacey was my true soulmate.

Chapter 8

The afternoon was spent fishing and laughing. Kacey loved fishing as much as I did and she had some true whopper fishing tales to tell.

The hours just vanished. It was the best fishing trip ever.

I noticed that Kacey looked unwell so I gently invited her to my place so we could order her some medicine as soon as possible. I didn't like the look of her rash and she said she felt hot.

I waited for her at the top of the hill. She half laughed and said she must be unwell if she couldn't sprint up a tiny slope.

By the time we were inside she had begun to cough and I was getting worried.

I ordered up the medicine in record time.

It worked like magic.

I asked Kasey to move in. I didn't want to be without her and we got on so well it made perfect sense.

It didn't take long for her to organise for her belongings to be shipped over. She said that most of her stuff belonged to her flatmate anyway.  I was fine with that, it was never about the money anyway. I was more than happy to share the little I had.

Kasey begged me to stop telling jokes as she said her stomach hurt from laughing so much. I mused over my good fortune. Almost daring to believe that happiness had really caught up with me this time.

We spent the rest of the day swimming around and splashing in Kasey's pool. I call it her pool as it had been a dream of her's to one day own her own pool.  I had just enough cash to make her dream come true and knew, without a doubt, I wanted to spend the rest of my days making every dream she'd ever had come true.

Looking back, that afternoon was perfect. A moment in time that if I could have, I would have frozen for eternity.

The next morning was rather more mundane. Plumbing problems and more plumbing problems.

Ironically it was Kasey out fishing as I said that there was no need for both of us to be stuck inside.

I spent a bit of time perfecting my pumpkin carving. Halloween was soon and I already had plans to make it the most memorable Halloween possible for Kasey.

Kasey went to sleep early leaving me some time to workout and think about the day.

Although I'd been reluctant to build such a large pool in comparison to our tiny backyard, I had to hand it to Kasey because it looked amazing in the moonlight that night. Magical and inviting. It would look even better once we had some landscaping and even as I was boxing, began to plan it all out in my head.

Ooo I see a death by drowning in Kacey's future O_O or maybe hilarity, since Kurt is such a joke teller! I almost thought she was going to expire right there and then until I remembered they had to be married first for it to count!

Chapter 9

Parker: Chief, I need to have a eye witness in to interview them.
Chief: Of course!
Parker: This eye witness is a little... er...unusual.
Chief: I don't want to know do I?
Parker: No Chief, you don't.
Chief: Just get the job done Detective.

Parker: Hmm, you know, maybe a desk job wouldn't be so bad...

Parker: Ah! Here he is.

Grim: Umm, I'm here to see Detective Parker.
Parker: Hmm I know.

Parker: Just come round the side and I'll unlock the gate for you.
Grim: Thanks...

Grim: Woah, good thing I'm not claustrophobic!
Parker: Yeah, it's pretty cosy.

Parker: Thanks for coming in.
Grim: No problem. I've actually always been a bit curious about the Police Station.
Parker: I'll give you a tour if you like.
Grim: That'd be great.
Parker: *Deep breath* Right, well...I need to ask you some questions about Kurt Moody. Specifically about the night his spouse Perry McCarty died.

Grim: Aww man! It's always the embarrassing deaths everyone wants to talk about.

Parker: Look Mr Grim, I'm going to be straight with you. You need to tell me exactly what happened in the order it happened on that night. All the details.
Grim: *Clears throat*

Grim: Look what can I say. He was young, she was old. He was a little 'enthusiastic'... death happens.

Grim: Really Detective, these May-December weddings should come with a health warning. Mind you, I'm not complaining 'cos it's good for business.
Parker: *Thinking* My job has just become excruciatingly embarrassing.

Grim: Please tell me I don't need to provid all the details Detective. *Cringe*
Parker: Ah no *cough* That's fine Mr Grim.

Parker: *Awkward*
Grim *Tellin' me*

Grim: You know that room next door?
Parker: The interrogation room?
Grim: Yeah. Do you think I could see it?

Parker: Sure thing, follow me.
Grim: Past all the perps? You go first then.

Grim: So this is it then?
Parker: Yup.
Grim: Could I try out the seat of power?
Parker: *shrug* Sure.

Grim: Oooo I need to get me one of these. How'd I look?

Parker: *Cracking up* Just great!
Grim: What's so funny?
Parker: Omah gosh, you don't know how crazy my day is but I'm tellin' you it just keeps gettin' crazier. Thanks for coming in.
Grim: I might just hang out in here for a bit.
Parker: Nice. I can hear my name being called. I'll check back on you soon.
Grim: No hurry. I like this room.

Officer Beadle: They're on the verge of riotin' I tell you. I'm running out of options.
Parker: *Takes a long look*

Parker: *Let's RIP* "XXXXXXXXXXXXX  XXXX XXXXXXX" <censored for PG rating>
Officer Beadle: Well, that worked a treat.

Officer Beadle: Pity your hot-to-trot-cover-boy murder was only a crime of passion *snort*
Parker: I knew the jokes would start... water off a ducks back mate.
Officer Beadle: *Snicker* Rather you than me doing that press conference.
Parker: *eye roll*

This is great! I, too, foresee a drowning in Kasey's future. I won't ask how you got Grim into the police station, let alone the interrogation room. Okay, I will ask. How did you do it?

Oof. For Playalot's sake I hope it's not a drowning. I have a drowning ghost in my legacy and he's the most annoying ghost ever. Leaves puddles everywhere! First time I've ever hoped a ghost would be culled. My money's on hysteria or starvation the way she was grabbing her belly. Can't wait to find out!

Are you playing Grim in a different file? I know you've had problems before.
Having Grim testify in suspicious deaths would certainly make things easier.

@MarianT @KRae  This has actually been quite tricky... I won't ruin the intrigue just yet but I will tell you that Grim is in another game file... a copy of my dynasty file where I had the misfortune of having the active Grim being placed in a house. lol So I decided to use that Grim in the story. The problem with this is that I can not take the Grim household into CAS or Manage Worlds etc as then he loses his floating-ness and deep voice etc So I have to keep mucking around to get what I want. It took me all day to get Grim and the Detective to the police station lol. So the file which the melodramatic love-struck Black Widow is in, has been played exactly according to the rules.  :)

@FrancescaFiori  I hadn't thought about the puddle issue with a drowned sim... sounds a right royal pain lol

@Magpie2012 , I know, right. Almost feel a bit sorry for the Detective. *Snicker*

@sdhoey , lol glad you're enjoying it.
