Rules Update:

  • You are also allowed to add one Maxis-made spa venue to Willow Creek, Oasis Spring, or Magnolia Promenade.  Choose between these four: Perfect Balance Spa, Center of Center Massage, Aham Ashram Yoga Studio, or Luxe Health Club.  Choose wisely which spa venue you want to add, no changing after you start your game.

Since you HAVE to take the satellite dish with you, does that count as one of the four items you buy when you first move in or is that an additional item?

"Aside from the two objects left on your lot at moving time, your Sims' homes/lots cannot be altered in any way - you need to play them as is."  So no adding a pool or landscaping as your unique objects?

Correct.  Pool and landscaping cannot be used as unique objects because the rule doesn't allow it.  Rule says object purchased from buy mode (pool and landscaping are build mode items, not buy mode).

These can be: a unique object purchased from Buy Mode, a unique career or party reward, a crafted object unique to a skill (i.e. one painting, one cooked dish, one gourmet dish, etc.) or an object unique to a collection (i.e., one fish, one metal, etc.).

Suppose something in the house breaks or catches fire and needs to be replaced.  Can you replace it at all, can you replace it at higher value, does it count towards items you left behind?

I suppose if that happens, then go for simply replacing with an identical object. In that situation it would not count against items left behind. You're just keeping things the same.

The Unique Item that is left behind, can you left the same type in another house? Say you leave a rat trap in house one. But you build a better rat trap at house 8, can you leave said rat trap at house 8?

No. If it's crafted and both rat traps are the product of the same skill, then...

  • Before moving to a new home each Sim is allowed to leave no more than one object. 15 homes = 30 different objects.
These can be: a unique object purchased from Buy Mode, a unique career or party reward, a crafted object unique to a skill (i.e. one painting, one cooked dish, one gourmet dish, etc.) or an object unique to a collection (i.e., one fish, one metal, etc.).

Reading this, I realized I didn't really understand the rule, either.  So if you craft a rat trap and leave it in a house, then all other items that might have been able to be crafted by that skill are now also off limits for both Sims?

Correct.

Example:
Let's say female sim have trapping skill and crafted a Rat Trap -- you decided to leave it in House #1.

Now let's say your trapping skill increase and you can create Poison Rat Trap, however you CANNOT leave it in any other house because you already left a rat trap in house 1.  Since poison rat trap uses the same skill (trapping skill), it is off limits.

Suddenly male sim wants to pick up trapping skill, he can but he cannot leave any objects behind because the female sim already left a trapping skill item behind in house 1.
