Vampires
« on: November 11, 2010, 05:44:32 PM »
We now have a guide to Vampires in Late Night thanks to samoht04. Thomas put together a great piece highlighting the changes a Sim will go through becoming a vampire, how to get your Sim turned, and everything this new supernatural life stage offers. The vampire guide one was a big responsibility, as it was a feature a lot of people looked forward to. I made a good decision signing off on Thomas to write it. He has my thanks, and I see great potential in him as a guide writer.

I didn't know a lot about Vampires yet, as I haven't had a Sim turned. Now I feel like I must make my next Sim a vampire to check out the new abilities and slightly altered playstyle they offer us. As he points out in the introduction, some people could have done without the vampire infestations in their towns. At least people might see the benefits of trying out playing them and forming their own Bloodline.

Feel free to comment after reading the new guide, and post any suggestions to improving it here or on the corrections board.

I've got a few corrections:

First of all, you put
Quote
The largest impact will be on ageing, as below.
I'm pretty sure it's "aging".
And, about what the vampire says after he turns you, when that happened to me, he said,
"It is done. Prepare for your journey into the eternal night!"
Therefore, I think the game chooses from a bunch of messages.
Just sayin' ;)

I get you, I thought it was aging too. It's ageing though. My firefox tells me I'm wrong, but google shouldn't lie. I'll fix the guide to say there could be multiple messages as far as transformation goes. Thanks!

Ageing vs aging.... It can be either. Well, well....

Unfortunately too, if a sim turns into a vampire the day before they turn elder, they still turn elder.  Darn, I wasn't even thinking about that.

Yeah the Vampires ages are messed up, from over 200 days of Adulthood the Vampire then turns elderly and is 70 days and older? Stupid in my opinion.

That is really a terrific article Thomas.  I think you have covered being a Vampire very well and will convince many players to try playing this creature of the night  ;D
I just have to comment on a couple of items that I have found in my game play and that have been mentioned in the Vampire thread.  Not sure if they need to go into the guide but the last comment might be important.  You might want to at least add a warning 8)!
  • Even though Vampire children don't fully receive their powers until they become Young Adults, as toddlers their learning speed increases.  I am playing with a couple of toddlers and have noticed they learn to walk, talk and are potty trained faster than a human baby.  They also read their toddler books faster.  My Vampire Sim father teaches them at night so I don't know if that makes a difference.
  • Vampire Children will learn and max out their Logic, Writing, and Art skills very quickly.  I think this will also apply to fishing and am trying that one out tonight.
    • When you summed up a Vampire's powers you forgot to add in their super-fast learning powers at night.  My YA Vampire maxes out a skill a night.
    • Vampires reactions to being out in the sun and their dislike of garlic and of those that eat garlic  ;D

Just a quick heads up you missed out the m in the word from. I copied this from the guide.

The Vampire State's Influence on Skill Gains:
Becoming a vampire will help your Sim to gain skills faster, and they will not suffer fro fatigue when exercising.

Great piece of writing well done.

I just found that my teen vampire maxed all of the instruments in a few short sim hours.  I also had my sim youth max out all of those skills too, that is amazing.  I read they were fast, but I didn't realize they were that fast. ;D

Ok, sorry but I gave the wrong information! Another message that you can get is: It is done. Prepare to wake into an eternal night! I'm really sorry! :'(
