Directing career = $$$

I am starting to convince myself that a sim in the directing career can make a huge amount of money per week. Your directing and acting career guide states a Distinguished Director (level 10) works 20 hours a week (1 - 5 PM, Monday - Thursday) and makes $605 an hour. That's 12.100 a week, without a raise, celebrity gift, or selling scripts. Correct me if I am wrong, but a Distinguished Director needs a five star celebrity rating. So your sim can receive gifts worth $15,000 to $83. From my experience with a sim celebrity I have never received a gift under $1000. I have not played to far into the directing branch yet but if you have, How much can a director sell a script for?

If a sim makes $750 and hour and receives and sells $7000 worth of gifts, you can make $22,000 a week. I realize the business career can +30,000 per week, but thats by holding meeting when ever you can.

I am going to test my directors theory soon.

BTW their is an error on this page: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/careers/latenight/film.php. The directing branch requires a writing skill not Charisma. I also suggest you add a graph about selling scripts.

Thanks, Andrew. I'll flag Carl's attention with that info.

Thanks. I made the correction there. A little sloppy on my part, copying a portion of the actor table to save time  :-[

I agree the scripts selling feature of the directing branch deserves a bit more time, especially after your good post pointing out the profit potential of the career. I'll add it to the Guide Agenda. Maybe someone else will submit it before I get around to it :)

A place for my question could be here:
If your sims has made it to level 10 writing and completing all the opportunities including specializing into writing masterpieces, does that also influences the amount of money a sim can get by selling his or her script? Influencing in a positive way I mean of course.

Has anyone investigated this in any more depth?  I'd offer to do it but I haven't gotten LN yet. :)  It seems like it would be fun to do though!

I have a Sim who is a level 10 Distinguished Director and who also has a level 10 in writing but has not written any masterpieces yet. She has written quite a number of books that were best sellers.   She has also written and sold scripts worth $1500+.
I'll play that family tonight and see what I can find out.

EDIT:  I had Gloria Marlin complete all writing challenges then she wrote a screen play.  The first screen play was prior to completing the challenges and the second was written after the challenges were completed.

mtglady are there any challenges which involve writing masterpieces?  I know you said you completed the challenges, but you pointed this out before your edit. Just curious!

No there are no challenges in the Writing skill that involve writing masterpieces.
The three challenges for the Writing skill are:
* Speed Writer - must have earned §30,000 in royalties and then will write more quickly than normal writers.
* Prolific Writer - must have written at least 20 books in their career and then they write far more bestsellers.
* Specialist Writer - must write at least 5 novels in a specific genre to be known as a specialist for the genre.
These specialists can then write far more hits and bestsellers in that genre than in others.

You actually have to write 25 Novels before the Masterpiece genre is even offered  ;)

If you quit after reaching level 10 as a director, will you still have the option to write and sell screenplays?
