How to get a teen by himself?

I'm trying to do the "Teen Runaway" challenge, but when I make my household, it says I need at least one Sim that is Young Adult or older.

I went ahead a made a mother for my teen, and I plan to kill her off.  But, is there a way I can make it more realistic, by having the teen be a single-person, runaway household?

I posted an answer here for a moment as though it were Sims 4, but the process is the same. You don't need to kill off a parent or anything. Start the game as an adult, then use cheats to modify in Create-a-Sim. Shift-click with testingcheatsenabled true. This should let you make them a teen, aging down from adult. You can't simply start as a teen and skip the game's requirement of having an adult in the house, as far as I know.
