Child Getting Kicked Out of School (Skipping School Bug)
« on: August 09, 2015, 08:28:33 PM »
Hi, my family has a set of twins and one of them does a full day of school, but the other gets kicked out about 2/3 of the way through the day and then loses a grade. I finally had to resort to the NRAAS careers/homeschool mod just so I wouldn't lose the kids. Does anybody know what causes this? Thanks!

Hi Sonshine,

From what I've been able to find this is a known bug (Skipping School Bug) that's been around since the beginning of Sims 3. Sounds like it was introduced via a patch.

Skipping School Bug - (Possible Fix)

1. Make a backup copy of game.
2. In that backup copy, go to Edit Town and save a copy of the school to the community bin.**
3. Delete the school from the lot and change lot type to: Visitors Allowed.
4. Replace the school from the community lot onto the same lot.

** Note: You may want to save a copy of the school building just in case the same one isn't in the community bin.

This maybe only a temporary fix. Other suggestions are to keep an eye on them. Manually make them go to school and do their homework, that sort of thing.

Thanks Mrs Flynn! I have one more question though, would this work on a combined bldg? This is in Appaloosa Plains and the school is combined w/the stadium.

Edit: I made a backup copy and will follow the steps to see if it works. *fingers crossed*

I honestly don't know if this will work for the combined buildings. I have that question myself.

I'm thinking it's away of resetting the building itself. So I'm going to error on the side that it will help. But that's only a guess.

Please report what you find. As this will definitely be helpful those that play family Sims.

Now the bug is affecting both girls. I have to wait one more sim day for her opportunity to clear and then I'll do it. I'll have to keep an eagle eye on them during school hrs. I will let  you know how it turns out.

Well, so far so good. After going through your steps of saving a copy of the school, bulldozing the old one and placing the copy on the same spot, I re-enrolled the younger girl back into the elementary school (from home school) and she completed one full school day at school by herself and was not kicked out. I'll keep watching though.

Edit: The only drawback was that their grades went back down to C and their mother, who worked in the Sports career lost her job. She wasn't doing good anyway (wrong traits for that job) so I just had her switch.

In my current game-save in Riverview, I've got a couple that has a teen and a child. School has been going okay. But I keep watching them go to school to make sure they get their and stay there.

Thanks for letting me know how it's working out for you.

Well, so much for that! They both got hit w/the skipping school bug the next school day. *sigh* I think I'm just going to enroll them in the home school and be done w/it. I did get a script error concerning one of the other students in the school.

Question - Have you tested this family in a new game? I don't know why I didn't think of this before.

When odd things like this happen I export the family and their house, most of the time separately, do a factory reset and then create a new game, install the family and house to see if that has helped. Most often a factory reset helps.

Would you mind sharing the family to see if I can run into the glitch with them? If so, attach them to your post. After I've downloaded them, you or I can delete the attachment if you'd like.

Thanks! I'm not quite sure how to do this (sharing), but what is your profile name on EA? Otherwise, I can make a backup copy of my current game, and then move the family to a different town. I noticed though, that the kids will not be kicked out on a field trip day! That leads me to believe that it is specific to the bldg. I'll try all of this when I'm more alert, lol.

Hmm.. Interesting, the building itself actually being glitched. If you've got another game-save in a different town, safe a copy of it's school and try it in the game that the girls school is glitched to see if that might help? -- Or I might be able to help you with that. I'll attach the schools from Riverview and Sunset Valley and you can try either of these or both to see if they help.

I'm sorry, I didn't give a how to upload files to the forum. *Blush*

How to do that is:

1. Click the word Modify up by the subject line of your post.
2. Click on the Words Attachments and other Options, under the message box.
3. Attach the file of the family and then click Save when finished.

If you need to know how to save/export the family. Here's the howto for that.

No worries! I was pretty tired when I posted that and didn't even think about attaching the file to my post! I was thinking you meant sharing on EA's site. : /  I just tried though and the file is far too big. It says that the max size is 10 megs and this file is almost 60 megs. So, we'll have to come up w/another way of sharing.

Saving the household by itself shouldn't be 60 megs. It should be around 1000KB maybe 1200KB.

If you're not sure how to save just the household, here's a howto on that.

How To: Save a Household
http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,19060.0.html

After you're finished saving/exporting the household. Look in your exports folder to find you household there.

C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Exports

If that doesn't work for you, go ahead and try the replacing the school with one or both that I uploaded to see if that helps?

Well, I'm afraid I still can't upload even the family itself. For the household only, it's 187 megs. :( I'll try making a copy of the family and putting them on a smaller lot and different town. The reason for the file size even just for the household only is that there are 6 sims and 2 horses. Including the lot is 201, almost 202 megs.
