Evil mothers tend to do that during labor, yes. It's pretty funny whenever it happens.

And I'm only asking this because it will bug me otherwise: is your Richmond a nod to Richmond from The IT Crowd?

Interesting - mine never have and I've played a lot of evil sims. Maybe it's one of those things that varies computer to computer?

And yes! I hoped somebody would pick up on that :D

Helena’s toddler birthday rolled around.

She inherited Richmond’s hair – initially the dyed-black Goth version, which I quickly Edited in CAS to his natural colour. I’m going let that expression speak for itself.

Helena mostly likes to play by herself, possibly because her parents seem to lack any interest in caring for her.

Once again, Tally stepped in, teaching Helena vital skills like walking, and how to say ‘feather duster’. I repeatedly told Lynn and Richmond to help, but they kept getting bored and walking off to play their guitars.

The obvious thing to do if you can’t look after one kid is clearly to have another one.

Alas, Lynn and Richmond would be on their own this time :(

Rest in peace, Tally. I’ll keep an eye on the grandkids for you.

Speaking of grandkids, this is Austin. He’s a light sleeper, so he’s going to just love being in a house full of musical instruments.

Even Helena’s getting in on the act. When she showed an interest in music, Richmond finally interacted with her autonomously. Presumably he’s considering her as a future band member.

Hank and Tally are still Just Friends.

Helena had another birthday, and became sufficiently mobile to take care of most of her own needs.

Once Helena had picked out new clothes, Austin also had a birthday.

Austin favours the Frio-Ursine side of his ancestry: I think that’s Claire’s eyes and Jared’s hair. Helena looks to be another Tally clone.

Helena tested out her new loner trait by playing by herself. She’s the first Sim I’ve had who has autonomously petted the rocking horse, but it’s one of her favourite actions – presumably because it’s a way to raise her social bar without talking to people.

She also likes being out in the garden, burying her mother’s things in the sandpit.

And Lynn and Richmond continue to demonstrate exceptional parenting.

Even when she decided she wanted to teach Austin to walk, Lynn chose to do it right next to the pond. But at least she wanted to teach him – she’s slowly getting the hang of this parenting lark.

And since practice makes perfect...

(I don’t know how finding out she’s pregnant connects to that thought bubble. I don’t think I want to know.)

In the world of sims, that makes perfect sense  :o

RIP Tally, you shall be missed!

Lynn appears to have finally got the hang of parenting Austin – not only has she started getting wishes about him, but she’s even managed to teach him a skill away from large bodies of water.

Helena is still raising herself, though.

With occasional attention and social interaction from the friendly neighbourhood paparazzi...

...and the ghost of her dead grandmother.

Even her teddy bear has glitched and become invisible.

Richmond had a birthday and became a fully fledged adult. He started a mid-life crisis, and finally decided it was time to get a new look – much to Lynn’s secret relief.

Baby time again! This is Augusta. Born an excitable genius, she becomes an instant favourite for the next heir. (In comparison, Helena’s traits are slob/loner/heavy sleeper, but she does have Tally’s genes in her favour. Austin’s traits are light sleeper/couch potato.)

As befits the proud mother of three (who is a day off elder), Lynn is extremely dignified at all times.

And Richmond might be a Proper Grown-Up these days, but he still likes to pull goofy faces while he plays his bass. And he still has girly eyelashes.

Seeing that her parents were too busy rocking out, it fell to Helena to entertain Austin.

The next day, Augusta aged up and Helena had a new babysitting charge. Augusta has Tally and Richmond’s hair, and really dark blue eyes that I think are from Hank.

And downstairs by the rocking chair Lynn got old.

Lynn got lots of wishes to look after Augusta, as well as Austin. Now she just has to notice that she has three kids instead of two, and she’ll be able to claim to be a good parent.

Birthday time again! This time Austin’s child birthday.

He’s developed a weird rectangular glitch thing on his chin – I have no idea whether that is his chin or his lips causing the problem, or maybe it’s a very early beard.

And it’s placed so that it’s impossible to hide. Oh well: his new trait is Can’t stand art, so he probably wouldn’t have liked face paint anyway.

And yet another birthday. Helena aged up to teen and became a perfectionist to go with her slob trait. Richmond finally got a wish about her – to send her to military school.

She’s got slightly funny-shaped eyes that I hid behind make-up, but at least she doesn’t have a beard.

I didn’t know child Sims could pet the rocking horse.  That’s so sweet.  I’m going to have to try it :).

That thing on Austin’s chin is really odd.  It looks like his hair colour, at least on my monitor, so my immediate thought was that he’d inherited Hank’s beard.  Weird ???.

The weird clipping that's going on with Austin's face is probably both the chin and the lips working together in a horrible way. But maybe he'll fare better as a teen.

It's adorable :)

I thought it looked a bit like Hank's beard too.

Something like that - it did indeed get better when he aged up. But ???

As Sim teens often seem to be, Helena was extremely attentive to Augusta’s every need, and pretty much became her primary carer.

And while she may have outgrown burying things in sandpits, she’s found new ways to get revenge on her mother.

For once I not only remembered to make sure a teen was in their formal wear for prom, but also got a picture of them getting the limo, so here it is:

Augusta aged up to child. She continued her run of decent traits by becoming the second perfectionist in the family.

Being a genius, she enjoys playing chess. Austin tends to get roped in as her opponent, because as the resident couch potato he likes the opportunity to sit down.

I appear to have neglected Augusta terribly as a child and only took one other screenshot, so have a random picture of her presiding over the royal kitchen:

Since Helena wanted to learn to drive, and her parents kept stopping when she asked them to teach her, once again Helena asked Tally to step in. Technically this counted as sneaking out after curfew, but they got away with it.

Austin met Hank. Given what Hank got up to during his lifetime, I dread to think what he’s teaching Austin here...

Austin had his next birthday. He’s replaced his childhood mini-beard with a teen version. (Although the weird graphics glitch has resolved itself.)

In news that doesn’t involve the kids, Richmond has achieved his LTW. It’s not the first time I’ve met the requirements of One Sim Band, but it is the first time I’ve got the stupid LTW to register as complete.

Lynn got hers (Master of the Arts) later in the day, but I was focusing on Austin gardening and completely missed the screenshot :( Sorry Lynn.

Augusta grew up to teen. This time she got Family Oriented – I don’t know how she’s getting so lucky with traits when Austin and Helena’s traits are all mediocre. Guess who just bought Island Paradise :D

With Hank and Tally no longer providing daily headlines, Sunset Valley seems to be starved for news. This week’s hot gossip: two-star-celeb Augusta Townsend picks vegetables - and eats them!

A couple of days later, it was Helena’s turn for another birthday.

Extremely appropriately, she rolled the Unlucky trait. That pretty much seals the deal: the next heir will be Augusta. Helena’s traits don’t point in any particular direction, but since she’s a perfectionist loner, writing seems like a good option, and she already has several points in writing from newspaper club. Her LTW is going to be Professional Author.

Helena picked out new clothes, retaining her taste for causal everyday and ridiculously over-the-top formalwear.

And then settled down to begin on her new job:

Meanwhile at the bookstore:

RIP Lynn.

Moments after he got the news that Lynn had died, Richmond felt old age sparkles hit. The thought of birthday presents cheered him right up.  :o ::).

Now that she’s big enough to use the science station, Augusta has gravitated towards activities involving explosions and toxic fumes. She’s decided she wants to be a scientific specialist. Since she already has points in the gardening and handiness skills, that will probably mean a future as a mad scientist.

That’s a whole screenshot without a birthday, which means it’s time for Austin to become a young adult.

He rounds off a set of completely unhelpful traits by becoming a night owl (although as a night owl myself, I see his point about horrible no good very bad mornings).  Since his traits don’t suggest a LTW, I gave him Living in the Lap of Luxury, which completed after an hour or two of Richmond playing for tips in the subway.

Austin’s had a change of hair to balance out his oddly-shaped head, and has kept his silly beard.

I’m trying to max a career with everybody (although Lynn only got to level 8 of the rock career, having moved in on her adult birthday and then spent half her working life on maternity leave). I didn’t have a clue what to do with Austin: his night owl trait ruled out most of the rabbit holes, and he didn’t seem suited to many of the professions either. He could have been a gardener, but playing a scientist and a gardener in the same house seemed too repetitive, so instead I had a total brain fart and forgot he can’t stand art, and signed him up as an architect. Sorry about that, Austin.

Richmond has long finished his career (Band) and maxed about eight skills, so I pretty much leave him to do whatever he wants. That means he does one of two things:

Austin wanted a girlfriend, so I decided to try and find him one. All the human original townies are long dead, but the vampires and fairies are still going strong. A quick poke around the neighbourhood revealed that Holly Alto and River McIrish were still alive. Holly once woohooed with his grandmother, and was an ex-girlfriend of Hank’s, so that would just be creepy – so River it is!

As if it wasn’t bad enough that I’m making him paint for a living, I’m also forcing him to go and talk to a woman who hangs out in art galleries. Still, they seemed to hit it off despite that.

(With sincere apologies to Augusta, who is the rightful owner of the sheets they chose to abuse. Ew.)

Speaking of Augusta:

She’s become an animal lover and is gorgeous, which confirms what I pretty much knew – behold the gen 3 heir:

She went off the join the science career and kept wanting to tell people all about it:

Austin asked River to marry him.

And I sent Augusta out to shop for original townie husbands. The choices seem to be Leighton Sekemoto or Miraj Alvi. Stiles McGraw is technically also an eligible bachelor, but I keep getting warnings that he’s going to die.

Or there’s always Arlo Bunch.

Sam Sekemoto is also alive, but he’s got a girlfriend already:

I have no idea whether she was attracted to the bald head or the blood-red wings, but Helena took one look at him and got a wish to kiss him. Augusta felt that dating her brother-in-law’s father could get a bit awkward, so Miraj seemed like the sensible choice. Somebody please reassure me that he can’t pass on VJ’s hair – I think I’m safe, but sim genetics make my brain hurt.

His LTW is Surrounded by Family, aka Mass Toddlerspam. I’d been planning for two kids at most this generation, but clearly that’s not going to happen now.

As it’s rather incompatible with Augusta’s job-related LTW, the plan is for Augusta to max the science career first, then go for multiple births – hopefully more successfully than in my domination dynasty. If necessary, I’ll get Miraj to adopt a kid or two, so that he gets to have the paternity leave, or get Augusta to plant a forbidden fruit and let Miraj harvest it. In the meantime, since he’s so desperate to be around horrifying numbers of kids, he’s joined the Education career.

Speaking of nooboos:

Alas, as one life begins, another ends. Richmond died doing what he loved best: playing his bass in the hallway and making goofy faces.

That was kind of a cool action shot of diving into the gravestone. It almost looks like she was embracing it  :o
