Windows 10: Both Sims 3 and 4 survived my upgrade
« on: July 30, 2015, 01:51:44 AM »
Hi.

I just wanted to mention that I just completed my upgrade to Windows 10 and it's really nice. Everything seems to be running nicely but there were minor hiccups that I fully expected. Most importantly, both Sims games survived it with minimal trouble.

Both games, upon detecting that I had a new graphics driver, started up in their safe (lower resolution) mode - making me re-set all of my game options. But once I did that, both games ran just fine. The Origin client couldn't connect to the service on the first try when I first started The Sims 4, but it worked fine after closing it and trying again. Works fine since.

Some people are fearing this Windows upgrade so I just want you to know that it all worked great for me and I am very pleased with the new Windows. I never quite got used to Windows 8 but this one seems to have gotten it right.

My only advice before doing the upgrade is to make a note of ALL of your game options preferences (from all of the Options tabs) before getting started because it will forget all of them. Also, if you can, make a full backup of your system drive (c:) before getting started in case you need to back it out.

Hi RandyH,

Thanks for the info. It's good to know that The Sims 3 and 4 are working well with Windows 10. I guess I'll have to get around to updating too...eventually.  ;)

So you really like 10?  I've been waiting for user reviews.  It's good to know that 3 and 4 work.  I'm waiting to see if 2 and castaway  will work also.  I'm more invested in 2 and 3 right now.  I keep waiting for fixes for 4.

I also like Windows 10. My graphics seem to be brighter and my game (S4) is running smoother. One thing I did notice is that I can't drag and drop screenshots to my blog posts (Wordpress) if I'm using Verge. I have to use chrome which works normally. I'm pleased with it for the most part.

I just took the plunge and upgraded. Everything seems to be working fine. Sims 4 is doing well; I haven't tried Sims 2 yet.

ETA: @RunAmokSims, I just tried the Sims 2 for a few minutes, but it seems to work okay.

Thanks Marian.   Did you install 10 like an update or did you do a clean install?

I just followed their instructions. I don't know what a clean install is, so I probably didn't do it.

I couldn't hate Windows 10 more if it had been spawned in the fires of hell. To me, everything since Win7 has been a downgrade. In spite of my bias, I haven't had any compatibility issues though. :)
