nraas careers confusion
« on: July 29, 2015, 05:28:42 AM »
Hi

I've just downloaded nraas careers mod so  can use their add on for school careers http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Careers+School+Phase+Eleven as i think learning something they can use later in careers is great, but i can't figure out how to set it up. when my sims turned to teens i thought it would ask, i have also looked at the boarding schools option, but it's not there either. Does anyone know how to set it?

Thanks

I haven't played with this expansion of careers myself, but have you tried "finding a job" or searching for a job on the computer?

Also, make sure the mod is installed correctly by clicking on the City Hall, while in Live mode and going to NRAAs and seeing if it's listed there.

Hi, thanks for your advice. I know it was installed correctly, I saw the homeschool option when I was checking my settings to allow more sims in my house.

from what I'd understood it adds arts, science, military etc schools to the game so your sims learn skills during school hours, Maybe I misunderstood how it works, I'll have a look around the town, thanks

Can I ask what you use careers for? I tried installing it a while ago to give teens useful apprenticeships from another set of mods but it never worked.

I use the career's mod for the Part-Time career aspect. I wanted my sims to get a head-start in their career and some of the provided part-time careers didn't seem... fitting? Why can't my Sim be a waitress/waitor? Why can't my Sim work at the Theater to get a leg up in the music field? It just adds the option to "get a part-time-job" by clicking on the needed venue.

Just to be sure, you do have the base Career's installed, right? What I would do is toss in the Part-Time career expansion and see if it shows up when you boot up a new game on the theater/diner/etc. If it doesn't show up then something isn't right and we can go from there.

Thanks!

i had the base mod, but reinstalled as I'm not sure how long it had been there. I also downloaded the part time add on as that is something i've felt is missing.

I figured the schools mod out. To enrol in a school you have to go to the rabbit hole, so for example science school is held at the science department. I haven't found where all of them are yet, but hopefully my sims will be able to get skills in school now (I didn't have time to test the schools work, but enrolled my teens)

That's great! I'm really glad to hear that's working! Let me know if you have any trouble! :D

I can't comment on the Careers Mod but wanted to mention that I recently discovered that nraas has a Mod Updater application that looks at all of the nraas mods you have installed, shows which are out of date and which ones you don't have. I tried it and was really surprised to learn that not only were several of mine out of date but that they have added optional extensions to others that I did not know about (like OnceRead now has an add-on for the tablet.) It then installs and/or updates whatever you want in the blink of an eye... Great app!

I seems to work great, the only thing I can't work out is my sim got the "prank the school" wish, but it doesn't seem to activate on the science lab she goes to now, or the traditional school. It looks like I have to manually pack them off to school as they can't take the bus, but as witches this isn't much of a problem. I's say a great mod for anyone wanting to get a headstart on skills, especially for a skill intensive job like science

Thnks RandyH for mentioning the mod updater, I found a couple of out of date ones as a pocket protector for potions. I don't expect any more mod updates now, but a kind of fun way to try out some different combinations
