Vanilla TS3 (no cheats) can I get friend to move in?

Okay I know in vanilla TS2 you have to romance a sim townie before you get an option to have them move in (or marry) with you.  In other words they had to be IN LOVE with your sim.  I've searched the internet and get all different answers on if this applies to TS3. 

So my sim is a straight male, let's call him Adam, and he wants to get a townie male, Homer Riley, added to his home.  Adam lives already with three sims I made; adult male Bob and his two children, teen Jane and toddler Pan.  I do not want any romantic situations yet! 

Will I be allowed to add Homer Riley to household, friend only no romance???

Also next question, Adam is Bob's friend.  I want Adam to marry Bob's daughter Jane when she grows up.  She's known Adam all her life since she was a toddler.  Will the game let roommate Adam romance Jane when she turns adult?

As far as I remember you should be able to have best friends move in with each other. They don't have to be romantically involved, they just have to have a good friendship. Keep working on their relationship by using friendly interactions and the move in option should appear.

Yes, Adam will be able to romance Jane after she turns young adult.

Okay thanks.  I kept inviting Homer over for parties and this and that and eventually the option to move him in did appear.  But I'm more interested in dating Rita now.  I don't care about Homer anymore, lol.
