Band career as solo Sim?

Is it possible to have a Sim join the band self-employment career by herself?  I'm asking because I want to have one of my Sims be a career musician, but I don't want to actually put her in the Music career.

Been so long since I have played Sims 3, but if memory serves me your Sim has to ask one other Sim to form a band, and then you'd be able do the self employed band career. No band = no option.
