"Sims 3 Has Stopped Working" + DxDiag, New Graphics Card
« on: June 07, 2015, 01:30:43 PM »
Hey guys. I used to be on the Sims 3 forum every day, and since no help from the new forum has come, I joined here for insight.

Crash to desktop. Actually not even. Sometimes it just freezes and I don't know whats happened until I go TO the desktop.
I used the crash analyzer and it says my graphics card is to blame, however I just built this computer last November and my graphics should be able to go to maximum.
I was told because its new that it would be at fault of the Sims 3 for not recognizing it, so I adjusted it ages ago, and have played it mainly with textures on high, but nothing really else.
(The Sims themselves without texture is just aguerkagmk uglyy  ??? haha )

My mirrors and lakes have no reflection, the shadows and everything are taking its toll with ugliness. But with all that it still says my graphics are poor in the crash test.
Help?  I'm afraid to play all my expansion packs because it just doesn't work. They'll play for half an hour with nearly no lag until a sudden crash.

My info:

*I use overwatch mod
*I have one anti-virus software, Panda, but I keep it off when I play.
*I use no cc besides store content.
*I updated to the latest patch, including store patch this also includes graphics drivers and other.
*I dont have much installed in the way of anything, due to crashing
*I have three installed besides base, Generations, Ambitions and Pets.
*I have reinstalled several times, I AM NOT doing it again.
*I have done the whole "make your sims 3 recognize your graphics card" thing, and it still doesnt seem to work.

Please help me. I am so desperate.

Hi, HatakeSage.

The graphics card is a pretty good one and should have no problems playing on high settings across the board. The symptoms you're describing lead to the possibility that a component in your system may be overheating. I use a free tool called Speccy to show the components in my system and see the overall temperature and the individual component temperatures.

Try running TS3 in windowed mode with Speccy open and see what the temps are like as you play. My guess is you may see either the processor or graphics card temperature running hot. You mention you built the system or had it built - open the side panel and check that the wiring isn't impeding the airflow in the case and check that the fans on the graphics card and CPU are spinning at a good rate. Let us know what you find out.

Hope this helps and happy Simming!

I will try that and the windowed mode.
Yeah, as far as graphics, I have no idea what is causing this. It's horrid.

Hi, HatakeSage.

Thanks for sending me the crash report. It looks like the issue is in DirectX. Try downloading the Microsoft DirectX 9.0c (2010) Redistribution Pack and see if that helps.

Also, check to see if all of the Sims 3 exe files (base game + any expansion/stuff packs) are added to DEP. If not, add them in and it may help as well.

Hope this helps and happy Simming! :)

I've never heard of DEP. I will try to google it.
I'll download the new DirectX, I'm not sure what it has to do with games, but I hope it fixes it.

I tried the DEP thing but I could only add the launcher, I'm not sure how to add the others as I can only see folders and not sure where the .exe file is to the Sims 3 or expansions besides electronic arts.

I will now do the DirectX thing.

edit: I have DirectX 11 and you want me to download 9 correct? Is this going to affect other things as well?
Will this cause issue to other games?

DirectX is a set of programing libraries used when writing games. Prior to Windows Vista Microsoft would release different versions at various times. Starting with Windows Vista they began releasing basically one version of DirectX per version of Windows.

DirectX9.0c was the last version released for Windows XP. It can be installed on Windows Vista and above without hurting anything and is required for a number of older games.

I'll download the new DirectX, I'm not sure what it has to do with games, but I hope it fixes it.

Yes, still download 9. This won't affect or cause issues with anything else.

MrsFlynn

I will now do the DirectX thing.

Oops. I downloaded the wrong thing  :o
Haha, fixed that.

Okay, I'm not sure what downloading 9 will do to the game though? Wont 11 basically overide it?
If this is too many questions I'm sorry!

This makes a lot more sense. Hm. Not sure how it works but that makes sense I guess! I hope to try it and I hope it works. I'm not sure about the DEP thing though.

Downloading and installing DirectX9 will help the game run better - hopefully get rid of the Access error. It won't override 11. They can co-exist on the same system without problems.

Nah, that's okay. Thank you for asking!! :)

I am going to start it up right now and see if I can play just the minor half hour mark I played before and see if any issue. If it crashes, I will respond and see if we can do more. Thanks so much you've helped far beyond the EA forum
