New recipes can't be read from bookcase

I have purchased new recipes from the bookstore and from traveling and I can put them in the bookcase, but when I select the Read options, they don't show up....please help!!!

Have you tried selecting open bookcase? If the sim's cooking skill is too low, the books won't show up with the read option, but you can move them into personal inventory using the open option. The their skill is hign enough, then I'm stumped too.

I think you have to drag it into their inventory, otherwise I couldn't think of any way else to read a recipe book.

No, books (including recipe books) can be read from the bookcase. Most likely her sim's skill was too low to read the book. I'm sure she knows now.
