Author Topic: Help! My sims wont go to bed or change clothes! (Read 7224 times)

I have a teen sim. Elliott Relevart (clone of emit relevart if this helps), he will not go to bed. After I try making him sleep he just resets immediatly outside the room he is currently in. This problem seems to have occured after I had him come back home from traveling to the future (i had testingcheats enabled if this is relevant). He also cant change his clothes. I cant even click on any dresser in the house when i have him selected and I have NO mods installed. I have tried as follows:
-buying a different bed
-moving bed to different spot
- having him sleep in a different bed
-moving houses
-evicting him and moving him back in
-aging up
-resetsim
-showering (for some reason this can fix some glitches)
-sent to boarding school
-switching to a different active household and switching back
-restarting game

-BTW, he can nap and relax in the bed, but wont sleep

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED

Hi Anbelt,

Thank you for noting what you've tried. I tried to search for more suggestions, and here's what I found that may help. Links below = if you want to read where I found the suggestions.

The suggested things to try are:

1.) Change the Sim's sleep outfit.
~~2.) Go to Edit Town, move the active family/sim out and then back in.~~ *This was in your notes as tried.
3.) Save the family/sim to the library and start a new game with them.
4.) Clear the game's cache files.

Thanks for the help! But the only thing on that list that worked (i tried everything on it except changing clothes) was saving the family to the clipboard and starting a new game. He can sleep in his bed now yay! but he still cant change his clothes. its not an option when i click on him and i cant click on the dresser when i have him selected

I've heard of that happening - Sims cannot change their clothes. I haven't experienced it myself, so I did a search on it and it's been suggested to do a factory reset.

Sims 3 Factory Reset (HowTo)

[This is different from a total-game reinstall - This just sets the game back to factory default.]

Move your Sims 3 folder to the desktop or some where safe, and rename it something like Sims 3 Current. Click the Sims 3 icon to create a new Sims 3 folder.

Go To: ----> My Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3

If you want to continue to play your previous game-saves, go into the Sims3 folder that you backed up and copy over your game saves, files and such over to the new game to see if that helps.

Factory reset won't help if the changing clothes option is blocked by the hidden Time Traveler trait. You could remove that trait by using MasterController or a tuning mod which unhides them.

I tried a factory reset, and installing a mod, and he still cant change his clothes. Using mastercontroller mod there is no time traveler trait or skill, but when another sim interacts with him there is a time traveler option. Unless i'm doing something wrong with the mod, this isnt going to fix it. I guess i'm just going to have to live with him not changing his clothes...ever. But at least he is sleeping now, that was really annoying.

Did you check if he has any traits (marked "H") without icon or name? One of them could be the Time Traveler trait.

He only had one, I changed it, time traveler option is still there and he still cant change his clothes, also tried to remove the future sim trait and it didnt work either

I'm sorry I wasn't of more help. When I run into gameplay bugs/glitches or the game is just acting weird, I usually export the family and their house, do a factory reset and take them into a new game. That usually does the trick for me.

Hmm.. Have you tried taking him back into CAS to see if you could maybe edit him that way? - Not sure if that'll work, but it may be something worth trying.

I did do that, I was able to change his clothes that way, but so far thats the ONLY way i can do it, I cant change him any other way (besides aging up but thats a duh) What I could do is clone the time traveler again and see if the problem appears again, then I would know for sure that has something to do with it.

According to the Traits xml Time Traveler does have an icon: "trait_placeholder (ph)" (written in red) and there are only three traits which use that placeholder. The other two are the Dream pod trait (which enables the Sims 4 dream) and the Descendant trait.

Yes, definitely try saving the clone of Emit again. Once you have him cloned, take him into CAS and Save him to Bin.

Edit to Add:

Did a little more digging, a little play-testing and failed at the test game. Wasn't able to figure out how to clone Emit. I searched on it and found this thread that might gives a little more information on Emit.

He's his own special life form, so that may be (?) the reason for not being able to change clothes?

I'm curious how it works out for you. If you try saving the clone of Emit again, let us know how that works out for you.
