Midlife crisis a butler
« on: November 01, 2010, 01:58:37 AM »
Is it possible to give a butler a midlife crisis?

I know he is not part of your sim family but I was hoping for a cheat like in The Sims 2 to add a sim to your family and than midlife crisis him to a Natural Cook, Green Dumb, Handy, Neat and Genius butler. Genius butlers could be practical to teach other sims skills the butler already knows.

I don't think so, Leto.  They aren't much different from a maid except they never leave.  If there was a way to cheat them into changing traits, it would probably be a mod that we won't discuss here.  But they really don't need those specific traits because they will take care of that kind of thing anyway, except for the tutoring part.  I haven't fully tested the Butler yet, but that's what I've seen of them so far.

The butler I got had at least two of those qualities.  He was a great cook and good with the toddler too.  I assume getting a good butler is just a matter of luck and they don't all have the same traits?

I wasn't reffering to mods. I like them as much as you do Pam. :P Haha! Only the posibilities that the game provide within the limits of pure gaming and by using inside cheat codes.
I've read about butlers in a specific butler topic and saw some issues about tasks that butlers don't take care off.

@ glic2000: You mean he was a great cook, or that he had the Natural Cook trait? How did you see that? I thought the only options a sim can have with a butler are chatting and another related thing.

You can use the usual socials on a butler.  One of my sims had the "observant" trait so he learned 3 of the butler's traits immediately.

I don't remember if he had "Natural Cook" but everything he made was of really high quality.

I don't have it yet but what might work is having testingcheatsenabled true then shift+click him/her to add them to family then shift+click them to modify traits. But then he/she would take up one of your sim slots so that might not be good!

You'd also have to control him and that sort of defeats the purpose of having an autonomous butler.

Your cheat was exactly the one I was refering to but forgot Esther. :) Why didn't I ask you did in the first place? You know everything about cheats.
Also, if you can shift click the butler to add him to the family and than you can modefy his traits you should also be able to shift click him to remove him from the family. In that case, is he still your butler, or is he than 'just' a sim on your lot ready to walk away?

The observant trait of Glic2000 is also pretty neat. Wasn't there a way to immediately know all ones traits?

I hired a butler for my Dreamweaver Dynasty family.  The shift-click to add him to the family was indeed an option.  Carina chatted with him for a few minutes using "Get to Know" and found that his traits are Neat, Family Oriented, Ambitious, Party Animal, and Brave.  I'm really curious to see if other butlers have different traits because those seem to make a good, well-rounded butler.  He didn't garden and I decided that he shouldn't anyway because how would we get the harvested produce from his inventory?

That's indeed a good question which I haven't thought about earlier.
If you look about it than Brave is also a practical trait, considering he could maybe take care of fires in the kitchen and save children out of the home.
Neat and family orientated can be considered as logical.

Can he even learn skills? You can command him to improve it when you have him under your control. And which skills does he already know?

Ambitions is maybe for more willing to perform his jobs and a party animal is nice of you throw out birthday parties so everyone will get entertained by the butler.

I think the butler would have to be level 10 in cooking.  I've heard of him cooking Lobster Thermador and that's a level 10 recipe.  He also fixes things, so he's got some handiness skill, too.  Other than that, I don't know.  My Dreamweaver butler is gone because the file went wonky and I had to reset everyone several times for getting stuck.  When I reset the butler, he disappeared from the house and never came back.

Oh Pam, if that has to do something with the 'editing' butler thing than I'm really sorry. Maybe we could use it as a warning on the guide to prevent other gamers from doing the same mistake? That case, it can turn into something good.
Hope you have a backup file, but I'm sure you have. :)
