So you really care about naming your songs and books?
« on: April 07, 2015, 02:32:01 PM »

I know the default names and ideas are pretty good but do you write names for your books?

When my male Sim got abducted and pregnant I thought naming a non-fiction book he was gonna write "Sea horse" a pretty good name XD

But seriously do you put thought into those individual, semi-isolated parts of gameplay. I know the moods help but I think it could be inspired by gameplay interactions.

What do you guys do?

I have to confess I do. Totally! lol Depending on the personality of my sim etc I name all my books and songs accordingly.  :)

My musician gave random numbers and words because I was not feeling too creative but my writer did - he mainly wrote fantasy novels for children.

I love naming things my Sims create! It's an inconsequential part of gameplay really, but it's fun for me to come up with something. Since most of them are based off of characters I know from books/movies/TV, I just come up with something that has to do with the series they came from. I also like naming paintings based on what I think they're supposed to be.

Yup, it's really fun. Some of the paintings are... interesting, to say the least. My Sim painted a supposed masterpiece that was basically a bunch of scribbles on a canvas. Maybe I just don't get abstract art.  ::)

Naming paintings is fun!  I like when a customer buys one in my gallery and it tells me the name.

When I write books and name them, I'm very generic about it. I like to track what book genre is earning me the most, so will go with Fantasy Book 1 and things like that. It's sad, I know!

I like tracking how many books my sims write and keeping an eye on the royalties, so I usually name them alphabetically within a genre with the titles all following the same (boring) pattern that I then try to make a bit silly.  For children's books, one of my sims wrote a series 'Pat the ______' with as odd of animals as I could think of, and after Pat the Zooplankton he moved on to a children's series on plants (See the _____ Grow).  My mystery writer had stories set in cities throughout the world, and my fantasy writer kept cycling through an alphabet of mythological creatures.  If it's a biography, I name it after a sim in my game.

I don't bother naming paintings unless I hang it on the wall, and my sims paint far more than are kept.  The ones I kept are named after things the paintings remind me of.

With songs, I give them names that I think suit the style of music and the sim who wrote it, but I don't follow patterns the way I do with books.  The songs are written a lot less frequently.

I like to redecorate houses and I fill them with paintings and books from my sims. I'm conscious about those paintings and books because I like to share my designs with others. But, the ones I'm not going to use, I'm not too picky about.

I've never named a painting, but I usually name books and songs. In GTW I had a task to name the sim ray, so I called it "shooty thing". Books get named with something relevant to the genre, kids books always end up with silly titles. The Sims that write songs usually name them based on their personality and sims they know etc.

I don't like naming things so I usually just take the name that it comes with.  Unless the game won't let you not name things.  I may decide to at some point, if I sell them on a retail lot.

I haven't tried it yet with TS4, but in most of my TS3 builds I shared, I hid book titles in the bookshelves that related to the story I made for the builds. Did the same with nectar names sometimes too. It was always fun when I would get a comment from someone about the hidden names.

I am not even sure they transfer with the lot share in the new game. Will have to give it a test next time I share a build, but building just hasn' been as cool for me in TS4 as it was before. I hope with them letting craftables transer with the lots now, the names we give those things will transfer.

If I'm playing as a career author then I will as I like to collect all their books in one room and looking back on all the titles at the end of the game.

For musicians, even career ones, I'm not as bothered and will usually name their songs the title of the first song that comes up on my iPod's shuffle unless I come up with a particularly awesome title

I have to admit... yes! Depending on which Sim I am playing I typically keep to a genre theme. Like with Mortimer I had him write a lot of mysteries or biographies related to him or the Goth family using titles like "Mortimer's Mysterious Mustache". Since Mortimer's death in my game I have been playing with another Sim who, like Mortimer, is aspiring to be a novelist. The genres I choose for Valentina (she is the daughter of Katrina Caliente and Don Lothario) are of the romantic sort. For her I usually come up with erotic and sexy titles for her books such as "50 Shades of Caliente" to name off the top of my head. Some of the titles of the novels that I make up are a bit more creative than others but I always try to make some effort with deciding on a name for any of my Sim's books. Sometimes I think I put way too much effort into small details of my gameplay that nobody but me will ever know. It is nice to know that I am not the only one that cares about the small things like naming written books within my game and I am not just crazy neurotic, lol!
