I always name my sim-created stuff in game.  Usually I have it fit my sim's personality or experiences.  A childish or goofball sim will pick a different styled name than a geek or a perfectionist, for example.

I really love naming and personalizing all those little aspects of my Sim's lives. I am going to have my current Sim (a former Celebrity Chef turned Bakery-owner) write a series of cookbooks with baking-related names ('Are you Bread-y?', 'Muffin To Worry About', and 'Bake it 'Till You Make It' are a few I have brainstormed already).
I even change the lot names for households I don't plan on playing. It's just nice to see my personal style here and there around the game.

I sometimes change the name if I feel inspired by making an opposite title like :
Tiger Don't Take Naps become Tiger Do Take Naps.
If I am Very Inspired i make a tittle based on real life books like :
The Lady of the Necklace : The Kinship of the Necklace, The Two Monuments and The Departure of the Queen

Must admit that I'm (like Carl) is very generic about naming. I do " kids book vol 1 - col 1" and so on. And i do like 5 or 10 books per "collection"

So i dont bother to actually name them  ::)
