Guitar - Play for Tips
« on: October 31, 2010, 09:35:28 PM »
Has anyone had the outrageous money making luck with the instruments and playing for tips with Night Late?  Playing with one of my characters previously before Late Night that was making $100,000+ in tips on a Sunday can now barely make 1-2 tips a night in Sunset Valley now with 10+ people standing around.  Only 1-2 people will do the tips and that's it.  Maybe they finally fixed this cheat?

They have not fixed the exploit to rack up composition numbers in the skill journal. That's how the huge tips come about (and accomplishing the Star Challenges). But, I agree that tipping frequency has gone down. Part of the problem is that there are a ton of musicians in Bridgeport. Everyone seems to want to break out their instruments and then you're competing for attention. So, at least it's great that EA added the new Take a Break From Playing social that will stop another Sim in their tracks without disrupting your own Sim's activity.

Yeah I did notice the exploit is still there.  But it doesn't seem to be worth all the effort when you get maybe 1-2 tips per session.  That's a lot of start and stop and lost time for the little money that is made now.  Yeah if you spend enough time and get one big $10,000 tip you can have spent the time doing other stuff to have made more money.

Being a celebrity and taking opportunities seems to be the best money maker as of now.  Spend some time with kids, make $10,000, eat here, $10,000.

I was doing fine in Bridgeport, but am really struggling in SV. I'm not getting any kind of an audience. Everybody is ignoring the guitar-playing sim and going on about their business. One sim stared through him for about an hour before moving on. It's a little bit ridiculous.

Where have you found in Bridgeport that is good for this?  I have the no Sims in bars/clubs bug going on so that is pointless and in general there just aren't very many people walking around that seems like a good spot to try.

Playing for tips in the subway seems to be the most profitable.  It's just a rabbit hole so you can't actually see your sim play, but the money comes steadily.  Apparently you can get mugged, but it's worth the risk.

I was playing at the theater with good luck.

@Becki:

The theater is also the best spot to play for tips in Sunset Valley.  I've had the best luck when I have my Sim there during the movie times (5:00 p.m. on weekdays and noon on weekends).  There are also tricks you can use, like throwing a party at the park and playing for tips for your friends.

I tried the theater in SV, Pam. Nothing. That's where I first started, then at Central Park. I gave up, switched to Riverview, and am not having any problems with it. I think it might have been a bad save file for some reason. I'm raking it in in RV.

I tried this and it is definitely the most profitable.  1 day session with a Sim at 500 times performed pulled in easily over $200,000+ and it doesn't seem to matter what day of the week either

That's really interesting and something I would never have thought of doing for the recent band article Carl put on the Guide.

I mentioned playing for tips under the 'Music' thread.  Its outrageous how much money you can get. On my way home from a club (4am), I played for tips in the subway and got $600+ for 3 hours of work.

The theater definitely depends on what time of day, sometimes nothing, others I've gotten a lot, but not as much as the subway (especially at 4am!).

My sims are being ignored again when playing for tips, this time in Riverview. I have no idea what is going on with this but I think I'm going to stop trying to make money this way :(

Have you tried adding any of the Late Night buildings to Riverview?  I only have the Sports Grill one in Sunset Valley and just the 1 station is all I needed to make the tips.  Could see if you can fit one of the buildings with the built in subway and see if it works?
