My intent is to take a building, like that awesome one samoht made for Pam, the colorful one, and turn it into a club.

That's a fantastic idea, Joria! I would absolutely love to see that!

So I spent all night editing SV to be compatible with LN and Ambitions (mostly because I'm not good enough to use CAW yet)...  I focused more on having the entryways to buildings positioned on the most level part of the terrain because lining it up with the roads didn't make much sense if there was a 3ft cliff in front of the door (the Sims wouldn't be able to enter that way anyways).  Any houses/families I had to move for lot placement, I relocated in another part of town so everything from the base game is still there.  I ended up with 5 apartment buildings, 3 dance clubs, 3 lounges, 1 sports bar, 1 watering hole, a dive bar, and everything from Ambitions (except the Laundry mat because I never use it).  I'm gonna try my luck with Barnacle Bay next!  8)

If you click on the pictures, it'll show you bigger ones.
On Twinbrook Lane I was able to fit 4 64x64 Lots and 2 50x50 Lots - I've marked the entryways with thick lines so you can tell where it's level.
1 50x50 Lot between Twinbrook and WaterFall Way.
There's a Junkyard in the empty lot by Stoney Falls (top right of pic)
I relocated Goth to the ever popular 15 Summerhill Ct and replaced their lot with a 64x64 for Plumbob Pictures.  Further down Skyborough Blvd I was able to fit Waylon's Haunt on a 50x50 Lot and the entryway levelly faces the road:

Here's a quick shot of Summer Hill Ct:

On Redwood Pkwy No Larger Sized Lots would fit besides the 40x30 that are there
I moved Agnes to 415 Skyborough Ln and moved the Single Moms to Sunnyside Blvd.
I put the 2 empty houses in that area on the end of Redwood Pkwy so the apartment buildings would be closer together.
Oak Grove was a big waste from all the hills.  Most of the original lots had to be deleted to make room for useful ones.   It helped the apartment area get more of a city feel by dumping in the rest of Ambitions.
At the top of the picture you'll see I deleted the empty house on Sunnyside Blvd,I moved it to an empty lot by the Stadium, and replaced it with a 50x50 lot (Eugi's.  Across the street (behind the Art Gallery) I fit a 40x40 lot for the Grind:

Where do you find the laundromat?  Or must you build your own?

The laundromat is in Twinbrook.  Just save to library and move where you want it.

LlamaMama, I was wondering the same, and in order to finish mixology challenge (professor something - learn 42 popular drinks) you need 9 buildings, listed in Carl's guide for mixology skill. I haven't tried but it might work to name lot in vampire bar in edit town (when you choose "comunity" you get many many option to choose from) and after placing bar, maybe you'll get to order and learn same drinks as you would in Plasma bar in BP.

I checked this just few minutes ago.
I edited 2 lots, both in vampire lounge, and on one I put just a bar, and on other I put Grind. On empty lot with just a bar, you could order vampire drinks and mixologist showed up quickly without working hours set (which I don't know how to set anyway).
In Grind you could order Grind drinks, alien style names, even if primary community lot is set as vampire.
Then in edit town I changed big park into vampire lounge for Central Park, and just add a bar. And they could order vampire drinks there too.
So conclusion is that if you place existing buildings, it doesn't matter what type of community lot you choose. If you build from a scratch than choose according to your taste. You can edit Stoney Field into Sport club and add a bar in it, and you'll get those specific drinks from there.
Hope this will help:)

Oh, I like the idea of turning one of the outdoor pre-existing community lots into a bar!  What a great idea!  Do up that Fisherman, Big Game Hunter, Manly Man theme for a "sports" bar.  Many different sports in the world, and my daddy does consider fishing one of them.  ;D

You really can't do much with the Bridgeport buildings except inside.  You get messages like, "homeowners association does not permit that".

I didn't have any problems editing Waylon's Haunt dive bar or the Aquarius in Twinbrook. Before you start, enter the cheats for "testingcheatsenabled true", "buydebug on", and "rbbb off". [NB: You may need to use variations like "buydebug true" or "restrictbuildbuyinbuilding off".] This will allow you to edit the portions of the lot that are off limits. You need to remove the round silver markers (that look like tomb room markers for those of you you have built or edited tombs). You can then edit that part of the building. However, you can only use the extra space for one "bar" or whatever you're building so unless you want a really big bar, you'll probably want to leave some of the markers in (or else just tear down that part of the building).

In general, I prefer to use smaller buildings for the public buildings in Twinbrook or Sunset Valley. However, it is nice to have the option to use taller buildings, especially if you want to have a "fun center" or "office/fun center" like Joria did. That makes it feel more like a suburb to me as opposed to a small town.

And your daddy is exactly right!  Just ask my son, the family fisherman!  (and I have a freezer full of fish to prove it)

Anushka did you place a building on those lots you mentioned or just the bars?  It would be interesting to see if we can do it al fresco with no building attached, wouldn't it?  For Grind, did you name the lot Grind or put the Grind building on a lot named vampire lounge?  I'm a bit confused.

@Joria: I see your evil plan, you can't fool me. Make a vampire bar out in the open, no roof, attract all the town vampires, and Ka-Boom! Meteor strike wipes out the whole scourge!

Joria, sorry for not answering sooner.
I used existing empty residential lots, changed both to vampire lounge type commercial lots, and on one put Grind building and on other just a bar on completely empty lot. For the sake of testing, I chose vampire type for all, and tried both bar and building (empty lot served vampire drinks, while Grind remain Grind, with open hours and alien drinks. Later I tried with Park and it worked there too, serving vampire drinks. I hope I wrote it more understandable now. I intend to use this a lot :D

That's interesting. I had an edited version of The Grind in Twinbrook. (I made it look much more suburban, and put in TVs, instruments, hot tubs, etc.) I just changed it to a vampire bar in edit town mode and now the icon is different and it serves drinks like Ecoplasmic Residue and Deathflower Drops. The bartender and a crowd showed up just as the bar opened. (By coincidence I edited it around 1:40 PM sims time; it opens at 2 PM.)

I didn't do any editing to Grind, just place it and never enter build menu. When it was finaly open to serve drinks, I got to choose among those alien names (I didn't remember what kind of drinks are served in Grind until I saw that, I just remembered that Deathflower Drops so that is why I choose vampire type in first place) Maybe it has something to do with editing, but I'm 100% shore I got aliens drinks in Grind even if it was on vampire lounge lot type.

I agree that my editing the lot is probably the reason I could change the bar type.

It  may also be that I still have testingcheatsenabled true, buydebug on and rbbb off but that seems less likely. (I put them on to figure out how I edited the large buildings so I could post my earlier reply to Joria and haven't bothered to turn them off. I'm editing not playing now so I didn't bother.) I'll try to test that now. [Edit: I tested the above. Even with testingcheatsenabled false (which disables buydebug and rbbb as well), I could change the lot type to vampire lounge and have it serve vampire drinks, etc. So editing the lot seems to be what allowed me to change the bar type.]

By the way, how do you get it to show the person's name and time they posted when you quote someone? TIA.

I just quote you and didn't edit your post. I tend to keep things original as much as possible ;D

I'm about to start game, so I'll retest this too.

EDIT: I retested, and yes, the same as I wrote before. Again, both vampire types, on one I put Grind without edit, and on other just a single bar. On empty lot with a single bar mixologist shows up at 2PM and served vampire drinks, Grind opened at 5PM and served neon glowy etc drinks.
When back on edit town, I noticed that game automatically changed Grind into Dancing Bar type. I change it back to vampire and now it's vampire drinks in Grind too. So if you assign lot type before placing building it doesn't matter, game will automatically arrange it accordingly to placed building. If you chose it after placing building it will become what you chose for it, as any other community lot. Mystery solved :)
