Against the Odds *COMPLETE*
« on: April 01, 2015, 12:42:39 AM »
When I introduce myself to people I always tell them I have two things going against me. The two things I have been made fun of for my entire life. My name and the color of my hair.

My name is Calliope Sawyer, and I am a "ginger". Throughout my entire life people have pointed, and laughed, and called me names. I have been told that I have no soul and that I am going no where in life. I was fresh out of college with the bare minimum in finances, and to top it off I was recovering from the tragic loss of both my parents. So here I was in a new town, and placed with the huge responsibility of running their store. You see, my parents ran this shop called the Shop and Save. It was a little shop that was a 3-in-1, there was a bakery, a book store, and a clothing store. I had no idea where to even begin and the store opens back up next week which means I had to get my skills sharpened fast! I moved into the only house I could afford and I had the bare minimum of stuff.

Well, there is a little of my back story. Nothing too exciting, at least not to me. I'm beginning to wonder if everyone was right, that there is no way I can go against the odds and accomplish anything...

Not a huge start to it, but I am too anxious and excited to get to actually dive into Get to Work! ;D

Feel free to let me know if it was a good start or if I could do things better! =]

Never mind the ginger hair Calliope. I too had ginger hair but when I aged, mine turned snow white and now people compliment me for it. Tough gig running the parent's shop. Find something about it that you enjoy or just sell up and move on to something you can enjoy. There is no point in holding on to a job that makes you miserable.

Nice start Ally. I don't yet have Sims 4 so I'm enjoying the stories.

Great start! Calliope is really pretty. I can't buy Get to Work for another few months so I'm glad you're showing it off in your new story. :D

"Okay, I can do this."

It was my first day running the store.

"Welcome to Shop and Save!"

I watched eagerly as the first customers walked through the door. I shook my hands out to try to get the anxious feeling out of my body.

""I would like to purchase this ma'am!"

I walked over with a smile.

"The bear with a heart! For someone special?" I asked.

"My girlfriend." The guy smiled.

"She will love it!" I said finishing up the transaction.

Sadly, that was the only transaction for the day. I flipped off the OPEN sign and looked at how negative I was. Over negative a thousand in profit.

I closed shop and headed home for the night. I thought that maybe opening up the bakery part of the shop would increase sales, so I spent my night baking.

The next day I put the bakery goods in the cases and opened up shop.

Another bad day, only three things sold, still in the negatives and no one bought my brownies and cookies.

How do you expect me to keep your store up and running? I silently talked to mom and dad.

I sighed and took a bite of my grilled cheese sandwich.

Going to bed that night I decided to make some changes to the store, and I removed the bakery portion of the shop and added household items in place of that.

We will see if they sell better.

Here's to hoping things get better!

Not a big update, but still trying to get used to everything! Glad you guys are enjoying it so far! ;D

"This is the third time I have caught you on your phone in a day! You are fired!" I snarled.

She huffed and stormed out of the store.

Second employee to be fired in a week and I needed help! Business was picking up and I needed all of the hands I could get. I haven't been home in over a week, so I have pretty much been living at the store. I have built myself a little backroom with a bed, fridge, stove, and a small TV.

"What are you doing?!"

I walked into the backroom/home and saw a customer and my new employee watching TV.

"I would like to ask you to kindly leave the store ma'am." I said trying to hold my temper.

"Whatever."

The customer left, and I exchanged some "nice" words with my former employee before firing her.

"Yes, I believe that would look lovely in your home." I said.

"Are you sure?" She asked.

"Of course! And if you get home and decide to change your mind we have offer a refund up to a week after purchase!" I smiled.

I found my perfect employee!

His name is Walter and he never stops cleaning, offering help to customers, and selling merchandise.

After managing to hire a second employee I decided to close the shop for a day. It was time to go home and have some me time.

It felt good to lounge on the couch in my pajamas, but I had to get back to work tomorrow.

Calliope is finally getting her footing with the store! And I must say I am enjoying the retail portion of Get to Work! I would recommend getting it when possible!

Let me know what you think or what you would like to see! Thanks for viewing my story!

I'm so happy for Calliope! It's good that she got proper employees and she seems like she knows what she's doing with her store now :)

The store is finally up and running! And out of the negatives too! However, that didn't mean that it wasn't still stressful.

"And you are sure your mom and dad are okay with this?" I asked.

"Yeah! Well, they don't know about it yet but I want to give it to them for a present!" The little girl said.

"Where did you get the money?" I asked.

"I saved the money I made from babysitting! It took me a month but I finally have enough." She beamed.

"Well good job! And for your hard work I will give you a special discount just for you! So you can have some spending money for yourself." I smiled.

"WOW! Thank you!"

Meanwhile I have both my employees a raise! They were both ecstatic!

My days were spent doing the same thing. I would wake up and go to the shop, I would restock anything that needed it, change some prices. Then the store would open, I'd greet the customers and make sure my employees were doing their jobs. Then after the store closes I would take note of what we sold and what we haven't sold in a while. Then I would restock the things we sell a lot of and then switch out items we haven't sold in a while for new ones. Then I'd eat and go to bed and do the entire process again and again and again.

I love my job though, each day is something new. I try to keep my customers happy but I have had a few leave angry. It gets a little hectic when I send Walter and Dayna home and run the shop by myself.

"Hello!"

I looked over at the customer that just walked in.

"Can I help you with anything?" I asked.

"No. Just looking around, just moved here." He said.

"Really?" I asked.

I looked at him, he was cute.

"Yeah, I don't have any place to live though. So do you mind if I just walk around for a bit?"

"Not at all."

"I'm sorry to say this, but it's closing time."

A few hours had passed.

"Okay." He said.

"Where will you sleep?"

"I'll find a place. Maybe a park bench or something."

I bit my lip.

"Well, goodnight." He said.

He turned around and walked to the door.

"Wait!"

He stopped and turned to look at me.

"I have a house, and I don't really go there much anymore because the store keeps me busy."

He looked at me confused.

"Here is my key, I can make a copy later."

"What are you saying?"

"I would sleep easier at night knowing you had a place to sleep and eat. So my home is your home too." I said.

"Miss, I can't possibly do that. We only just met."

"Please, think of it as being my room mate!"

He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.

"If you insist miss."

"Please, it's Calliope."

"Calliope eh?" He asked.

I blushed.

"Well, thanks Calliope."

It only occurred to me after he left that I didn't get his name.

Uh oh, what was Calliope thinking? Maybe she is sleep deprived...

What do you think? Was that a smart move or a bad move? Let me know! =]

Oh boy, I can't even tell if it was a good or bad idea on her part. Hopefully, it turns out for the best for her :)

That's one cute Sim. Was he randomly generated or did you add him in? My game never generates attractive Sims for some reason, lol. ::) I hope Calliope didn't make a mistake by inviting him in...

I created him because of that exact reason haha. I wish the sims generated sims that looked that good! It would save me from having to make them!!!

100 views?! WOW! Thank you!! ;D

On with the story!

I decided to spend some time at home and maybe get to know this mysterious stranger that I offered my home too.

"I'm ashamed to say that I didn't get your name when we first met." I said.

"Well, it's spelled differently but my name is Shayne." He said.

"Neat, and I know I said my name is Calliope but you can call me Callie." I said.

"That's a pretty name." He said.

"Thank you." I blushed.

That night I thought about investing in a sleeping bag or an air mattress.

Sleeping on the couch was going to get painful.

It turns out that Shayne actually went to school to be a doctor and he soon found a job at the local hospital as a med student!

I would never be able to do it because that involved blood and needles which aren't my favorite things in the world.

"I love dealing with the children the most." He said one night.

"Why's that?" I asked.

"Because, they come in terrified and it is an amazing feeling being able to calm their fears." He smiled.

"You know, you have beautiful eyes." He said.

"Well thank you!" I blushed.

We spent the entire night and part of the morning talking and getting to know each other.

Sadly it was back to work on Monday morning.

However, Johnathan was doing wonderfully. I had Walter training him on sales since Walter had already maxed his sales skills already.

Sales were doing extremely well. I only had about $3,000 simoleons in the store fund but I hoped with further sales and marketing that it would start to grow soon.

This was kind of crappy update, I could of done better but I wanted to get an update out before I start playing more! I'm also insane for doing two careers at once!

Nice. But golly gee, I wonder what are the odds that Shayne and Callie are going to end up together? :P

Looks like you're having a ton of fun with the expansion. Wish I had the $$$ to get it myself at the moment.
