If I have remembered that correctly, Family Orientated sims can also help kids with homework easier and the genius ones can tutor sims. Can butlers do that, too? That way they can be used as teachers in skills also.

I don't think they teach or tutor.  They aren't good for much, really.  They cook and clean and leave the house for unknown reasons.  My butler is currently missing.  They aren't reliable at all.

Same here. I had mine for about a week and he was great. Then he just vanished, but yet I could invite him over for parties and stuff. I hope they fix this soon!

My butler is still there after two weeks, not saying if he will stay much longer.  I do notice when the butler has the handy trait, he will fix anything and everything in a matter of seconds.  If they don't have the handy trait, they won't fix anything, but keep mopping up that puddle after the shower springs a leak, lol. ;D

I hired a new butler who looks exactly like the old butler.  Then I discovered that the old butler is an elder.  Maybe he retired.

I was actually thinking of adding a  butler to the household, just to see how old they are when you hire them.  If they are close to elder, that might be one reason they leave, who knows.  I think I read earlier, someone saying they didn't get the romance interaction with the butler.  I get all of the interactions on mine, in fact both mother and daughter like the butler romantically, which makes minus's fly, all they want to do is flirt.  He is the one that makes most of the advances, go figure. :D

My butler has been fantastic, but recently, since the toddlers have become children and need him less, he's begun doing inappropriate things like "relaxing" on the mom and dad's bed. I've noticed he drinks a full tray of juice at a time -- maybe he gets tipsy.

Butlers have an interesting place in my Sims history, in all three games I kind of looked forward to getting them and every time I got rid of the butler after a couple of weeks. It was for pretty much for the same reasons too; they cook to often and do much less than the maid, nanny and repairman together. I will give Sim 3 butlers another chance though since I remembered it just might be that I had bad luck with personality.

The first butler I hired was fine, but I didn't have any children in that house. The only annoying thing was he would cook and if I wasn't paying attention my vampire would start eating. Now I am playing a different house and the butler stayed for a couple of days and then said "I'm all done that will be $541" then left. When I clicked on what was her bed I just got normal bed interactions. Then I called to hire a new butler and she showed up again. Now she keeps doing this, leaving after a couple of days then I hire her again. It's really annoying

Does she have the Absent-Minded trait?

Hey everyone some people have said there butlers keep leaving. I remember reading somewhere that you need to keep a good relationship with your butler or they will quit. So that could be the problem with some of your butler issues.

I love my butler, though I do tend to have an over abundance of certain foods at all times, though he does seem to rotate between dishes. First, all he made was lobster, then it was salad, now it's been pancakes. But it sure beats cooking! He also does a good job of fixing things and will help out with the kids quite often as well. I'm not sure what his traits are, if I can see them I'll post on here. Edit: 3/5 of his traits are: Family Orientated, Neat, Brave.

Also, my butler disappeared off the lot for quite awhile as well, and I was unable to hire a new one because it said I needed to fire him first in person. I never did find out where he was hiding in town, but I found a way to get around it. I used the resetsim code and was then able to hire a butler again. Better yet it ended up being the same butler (don't know if it would always be the same butler), which is nice as it seems all butlers are not equal! If you don't know the code, in the ctrl-shift-C mode you just type: resetsim firstname lastname .  For instance, my butler's name is Bertram Plunkett, so I typed resetsim bertram plunkett . Hope that helps some of you that have stuck/missing butlers.

Great idea. I like the idea about keeping a good relationship too. I'd better write down the guy's name in case I need to reset him.

I played alittle more today and my butler walked out and started to go down the elevator and lucky my Sim was home so I canceled what she was doing and told her to ask the butler to cook and that saved the butler. So maybe that could be a option for some but I don't know.
