my house is the same way too. I had to rehire a maid to come and clean, but she refuses to make the beds

Sounds like we need a new button in the options menu: Togle off NPC Freewill.

They may need to be a bit less general if they turned the free will off of them they would stand there and starve to death.
Also you know how if you trap a maid in an area they just teleport of the lot well if butlers live there do they die?

I just got my butler today. He's great, except he makes way too much food and accumulates quite a tab at the refrigerator (Lobster Thermidor?), and I wish he didn't pick up all the books I intentionally leave lying around for the toddlers to read. I thought it was interesting that his thought bubbles anticipated crying toddlers when they had needs, even though they weren't crying. Sometimes he just stands quietly next to the twins playing blocks, observing. I didn't realize I needed to click to designate his bed, so I was kind of alarmed when he went to bed in the little boy's bedroom.

I want a butler in real life now.

OK, so they take care of kids, cook and clean but do they also garden?

My family is overeating because every time the butler cooks something, he calls everyone to the meal. "Grab a plate" shows up in everyone's queue, whether they're hungry or not, so they eat. I try to cancel it when I see it. I haven't seen him eat, but I saw him make a tray of juices and he drank three. That was Sunday morning, while he was in his jammies. I think they get half a day off per week.

Has anyone figured out how to get him to park his car on the lot instead of in the street in front of the house?

My Dynasty family now has a butler named Wesley Herbert.  As soon as he arrived, he went around the house cleaning and tidying everything.  I hired him late at night, so his sleeping schedule is a bit off.  He stayed up all night doing various things.  A little before 6:00 a.m., he prepared normal quality waffles and the whole family came to eat them.  Then around 10:45 a.m., he prepared great quality Dim Sum, which I put in the trash because they had just eaten waffles.  Plus, I try to keep only perfect quality leftovers in the refrigerator.  Carina talked to him and learned all of his traits:  Neat, Family Oriented, Party Animal, Ambitious and Brave.  He hasn't gone to the garden and there is no interaction to ask him to garden.  The more I think about it, I really don't think he can or should do gardening.  Harvested items go into the Sim's inventory, so the family wouldn't be able to get them if the butler did gardening.

I actually agree with pam and if you did gardening anyways at the rate butler's make food anything harvested would be wasted anyways. There would have to be a separate gardener that would be specifically gardening the only thing he wouldnt be able to do is plant unless the game had us show him where.

I think the gardener should be a separate NPC for hire.  The butler already does a ton of different things.

As for the harvestables, they could just get transferred to the fridge when the gardener collects them.

I heard an extremely vague rumor that the next EP would have an "outdoors" theme, so I have a feeling gardeners will show up in that one.

The fridge would not work if you have a butler they would cook it almost instantly before your sim could get it.

3rd? Do you have three butlers then or you mean you've tried out three times until the butler you've hired did finally what he was supposed to do?

Those are things I hadn't thought of! That's why I love this place so much, I only thought of the time saved but everyone else thought of the negatives for it! Thanks everyone!  ;D

Yes I had to wait for each one to collect their pay and then hunt them done by clicking on the pic. Then I fired them.. the first one was at a bar and the second one was at the gym... now my third one worked for 3 days and has disappeared!!!

My butler made pancakes with Renoit grapes. We have those in our garden, but I haven't seen him there. I don't know where he got them from, though.

I told the mom to read a book with a toddler, but the action kept cancelling. I realized why, when the butler started reading a book with the same skill to that same toddler. It's as though he took over the action the mom was supposed to do. Weird.

This butler is Family-Oriented, so he's really good with the little ones. He kisses them on top of their heads and reads to them with his arm around them.
