Grafting Seems Broken
« on: February 27, 2015, 07:37:32 PM »
So for ages I have been able to graft any/all plants. Just in the last week I am now having problems. It seems my sim can graft for so long in the game and then suddenly it becomes impossible.  My sim does the 'T' Jump and the cutting stays in his inventory and the plant is unaltered. He can still take cuttings but, for no apparent reason, just can not graft anymore.

I have tried three different brand new files and three completely different, newly made sims.

Is anyone else having this problem? I have cleared the cache files and repaired my game and even uninstalled-downloaded my game again and then did the 3 new game files.

It's a killer, it so ruins my game.  :(

In my games it seems impossible to graft to a basil plant. In that case the cutting stays in the inventory like you said.
There were instances with other plants, but after 'save and exit game' I was able to graft normally.

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately even after saving and quitting my sim can only graft one more plant and then it becomes impossible again, and that doesn't happen each time. Sometimes after saving and quitting I still can't graft.  ugh!

I'm not having that problem.  I wonder if repairing your game would help?  Be careful with repairing though, since it will reset your achievements.

@ClayMask , thanks for the idea, but I've already repaired and reinstalled! I guess it looks like this problems here to stay.  :(

Hi Playalot,

When I first saw your post I tried searching out the problem, but am not finding a whole lot of details on it other than it's suppose to be fixed (?) with (Oct. 2015) patch 1.0.732.20.

Gardening splicing/grafting bug

It maybe a good idea to report it? See if anyone else is having the same problem or may know of a work around. If it gets enough "Me Too" it may get to be seen by the higher ups, that hopefully will fix the annoying bug.

Thanks MrsFlynn, I saw those older posts too re: fixing the grafting issues way back last year.

I think it is related to trying to graft onto basil. In my latest new game I haven't attempted this graft and so far my sims are able to graft just like normal. I'll keep grafting away and post back once I have tested this a bit longer.

I guess if it breaks straight after attempting a 'basil graft' then I'll more or less know it's this.  :)

Are you taking a cutting then immediately grafting?  Or taking multiple cuttings and trying to do several grafts?  I had an issue with trying to queue up several grafts after taking several cuttings.  It messed up and wouldn't work.  Now, I only take cutting and then straight away do the grafting.

Hmm, that's a good question Dellena. Previously I could have a huge pile of cuttings gathered from around the worlds and could take them home and graft them all happily. At the moment I am only testing one cutting/graft at a time and so far this file has been fine with grafting. I also haven't attempted to graft onto basil as every time I do that grafting breaks.

Either way, something has changed as I definitely could graft a multiple cuttings only a week or so ago. So I'll try multiple cuttings at once and see what happens and post back later today.

Just a note on grafting onto basil. It looks like it doesn't work as the sim does the 'T-jump' and the cutting stays in the inventory but a day later the plant will have another plant growing on top of it like here in Twinmum's picture. When that happens for me if I save and quit then sometimes my sims can graft again. Other times no matter what I do grafting just doesn't work in that game file again at all.

@Dellena , my sim has just successfully taken multiple cuttings and grafted them one after the other onto various plants in his garden.

I can't reproduce the grafting error at all! But when it happens I then can't fix it in that game file... only option is to delete it and start a brand new game. Frustrating for sure.

I know there are a couple of grafting possibilities where the plants still grow on top of each other.  I don't remember what they are, and this only happens when one is grafted on the other, and not the reverse.  I didn't realize that they would break grafting after that.  I guess saving before trying different grafting combinations is a good idea, and cycling through several saves when saving also seems good.  I'm sorry this happened to your game, Playalot.

Thanks Clay, funny thing is even though I did save before grafting and then quit without saving when it broke... my sim was unable to graft anymore in that particular file!
Anyway, I guess I'll just wait and see if anything comes up in the official forums and hope for either a fix or to find out what is causing it so I can not do that!  :)

I don't know if this is a true fix for the grafting problem, but someone has posted a workaround of sorts. I'm hoping for those that are still experiencing this or a similar issue, that this may help.

Grafting plants issue
http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4-Bug-Reports/Grafting-plants-issue/m-p/4486892#U4486892

Suggested Solution:

Save house to library. Send Sim to dresser to plan outfit. Save household to library. Start new game. Select household to play, and in Build/Buy mode place saved house.

Had Sim take cuttings from the plants and had successful grafts especially the Orchid/Pomegranate=Death Flower.

I ended up doing a fresh complete install of TS4. Just so much easier for me to start with everything like brand new! I saved my dynasty and legacy files first but everything else pretty much got deleted. Now I have no gardening issues!  :) Not the solution for everyone but it worked for me.

That's good news, Playalot! So, you can graft onto any plant? Even basil?
And how do Farmer Packages work for you now?
