Has anybody tried using curved pool option?
« on: October 30, 2010, 06:07:15 PM »
I'm trying to design a pool using the new curved pool options that come with LN/patch and I must admit I'm either not being very bright, or, well, something else! Cause I can't seem to get it. So far the most I can do is a circular pool.

So, has anybody used the new curved pool features? And if yes, I would really appreciate it if you could let me know how it's done  ???

I'm not really sure how to explain how to use it, I got it with the patch and found it kind of straight forward. You just move the sliders back and forth to play around with sizes and mix and match all the new tools. I'm gonna hope on Sims real quick and show you a picture of something I did.

Okay, hopped on game and went to work, they aren't great pools, but they are a neat example of what you can do IMO.

Oh wow, how did you do that? I've tried messing about. As I already mentioned I can do round ones, i.e. using the first, rounded pool button (can't remember the name and not logged onto the game yet -  doing my finances  :( ) So I know how to flip the numbers round to flip the pool clip on the screen. Its that concave thing I can't figure out. I do the numbers, put a corner down, then when I try to do another corner all I get is the message saying I can't put it down otherwise it intersects the curved pool.

Oh that! You just have to make sure you're not touching a curved side of the concave pool piece. Usually, I put down everything else first and then add the concave pieces, the trick is the think of everything as squares, they looked curved but the footprint seems to register as a square, so there are a few placements in that.  I know it sounds really confusing but if you get to thinking of everything as covering the square shape equivalent, and using the concave pieces last, it gets easier. Plus, mixing and matching square pools with curved pools works well too. In this, none of my concave pieces are touching each other, I have some regular square pool between them. That tends to help from keeping the "cannot place" message popping up. Does that makes any sense?

Oh right, I get it I think. So probably the easiest way to do it is to do your square pool at first then add the curved sides? Because I was also wondering how you fill in the middle of the pool once you've placed your curved sides. I was imagining a nice pool perimiter and grass in the middle!

Also the round pool I manage to make is small, as I wasn't putting the square bits in the middle to bulk it out. So I've been thinking, well, great, I can make a small round pool that will fit max 2 sims! lol

Yep! Now you've got it! Good luck, post some screenies if you feel like it later. I'd love to see what you come up with!

So I have this huge problem with the curved pools, and I want to do one really badly.
So I am able to do just one side of the pool and I'm not getting how to do the other sides. (like in the pic)
How to rotate it, maybe there is a cheat or something!? HELP PLS

I think you can use the < > keys or the arrow keys.  I only tried this once when playing around and I think that might have been what I used.  I'm not on the game now so I can't tell you for sure but I am almost positive it was one of them. (I hope)

To rotate the object you are holding use the <> keys. The arrow keys move the screen, not the object.

I had a mess around with the New tools and I have to say I like that these seem to be able to be incorporated into the design of a house, where as I personally hate the blocky pools.  :)

Hooray! Ok, got the rotate (< & >) thing down, no problem.  Flipping was a little trickier.  What you need to do is invert the height/width settings. If you have a 2x4 piece, its flipped version is going to be 4x2. Then you can rotate it the way you need.  8)

For Example (with 2x4s):

"The black man fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed..."

I'm definitely still lost at how to actually do this. Every time I lay down pieces they don't turn into a pool. Do you have to use the convex and concave pieces together?
