Sims are pixelated

Oops....just realized I had posted this in the wrong place before but I removed it and put it here. I still cannot navigate this site correctly  anyways my sims have started to become ....pixelated (?) I don't know if that is the correct word but yeah...they just seem rough around the edges and I'm wondering if it is my screen resolution. I have it set to 1024 x 768. Could that be the problem?
(Also I can't attach pictures because it says that it doesn't take JPGs)

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz
RAM: 8,00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating system
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M
Free hard disk space: 578 GB free of 911 GB

There are a few things that can help with this:

• Check that Advanced Rendering is checked On
• Make sure Animation Smoothing is checked On
• Change the game's resolution to something closer to your monitor's native resolution. (i.e. 1366x768)
• Set Sim Detail to Medium or above

     
Of these, the ones with the least impact to your game speed will likely be Sim Detail and Animation Smoothing. Advanced Rendering makes the most impact.
