Driving Cars (determine which cars Sims drive)

I had a Sim with 5 cars. He was starting a collection. Even when I set the cars I really don't want him to drive far away from the entrance to his lot, he'll still drive a random car and sometimes even takes a cab. I set the default ownership from the Sims he stole them from (shared) to him directly, as sole owner. There's still no way to keep him from using a cab. Anyone got any experience with this?

Oh, Sims and their cars.  Lol.  I've had them drive a car to a location, then take a cab back home.  I found one of my cars in the parking lot of the science lab when I just happened to send another Sim there to fish.  There it was, just sitting there.  I wondered what had been happening with missing cars!  I had a Sim who would take his bicycle instead of his car, too.  I put the bike into the family inventory to solve that problem.  The only real time I've noticed that they take a cab instead of their car is when they are taking a baby someplace.  They apparently don't have car seats and can't take a baby in the car if it's just the one adult.

I solved the problem with Sims and their cars and taking cabs by placing the cars in each individual Sim's inventory and have no parking place at the house for them to park the car.  It automatically places it back in inventory and my one Sim quit taking taxis everywhere.

There must be a better solution?
I think one of the best things about cars is that they can be taken everywhere and have a parking space adds to the effect.
But hey, if it works it works right.

Yeah, the way they use cars is a bit odd.  I thought I lost a car once when my pregnant Sim went with her husband to the hospital and they came home separately in cabs  ....I thought all big items went in the family inventory and didn't realize it was in the backpack and was looking all over for the darn thing..   It would be nice if you could just use the car you actually clicked on.
