New here! I have editing problems :(
« on: January 23, 2015, 06:38:52 PM »
Hello! I'm having a few issues with my video card not being recognized/not found in the database which I'm pretty sure causes my game to crash after a few minutes of playing. Not all of the settings are automatically set on Low, but I feel the others could be much higher than where they are now...

This is from my DeviceConfig.log

=== Graphics device info ===
Number: 0
Name (driver): NVIDIA GeForce 840M
Name (database): NVIDIA GeForce 840M [Found: 0, Matched: 0]
Vendor: NVIDIA
Chipset: Vendor: 10de, Device: 1341, Board: 08671025, Chipset: 00a2

Here's everything that I have done so far:
Made sure my game is using the NVIDIA card in the card's control panel
I have already tried editing the both .sgr files by myself and got [Found:1, Matched:1], but this did not solve the graphic problems.. so I guess I didn't edit them correctly? I thought I had it down, but deciding where everything goes is a bit confusing. :(

Could anyone kindly guide me through this editing process?

I got this from my GraphicsCards.sgr and maybe it could help with placing the card correctly..

vendor "NVIDIA" 0x10b4 0x12d2 0x10de
card 0x0fd1 "GeForce GT 650M"
card 0x0fd2 "GeForce GT 640M"
card 0x0fd3 "GeForce GT 640M LE"
card 0x0fd4 "GeForce GTX 660M"
card 0x0fd5 "GeForce GT 650M"
card 0x0fd8 "GeForce GT 640M"
card 0x0fe0 "GeForce GTX 660M"
card 1080 "Geforce GTX 580"

so.. would I just put 0x1341 "GeForce 840M" somewhere? or do I have to add the GT or GTX?

Hi Mari,

I'm not entirely sure if this will help, but when I saw you mention video card not being recognized/not found. This is all I could think of.

Make sure The Sims 3 is running on the dedicated graphics card and not the built-in card. Crinrict has a post that explains how to do that.

Hopefully this helps, and Welcome to the Forum!! :)
