Happy Thanksgiving Everyone
« on: November 25, 2009, 09:30:56 PM »
I'm so sorry - I know this isn't really Sim related but I just really wanted to tell all of you Happy Thanksgiving. I keep looking on the bright side, and realize that even though things aren't really how I want them, I do have a lot to be thankful for. Like my Boss keeps saying "Bogie, you could be lying in a hospital bed in a coma". With my luck, I would wake up from the coma, get out of bed, trip, fall, and break my leg!!  ;D

So I'm riding my Sim to learn the Turkey recipe in celebration..but I do want to share something with all of you, because it really touched me to the point of posting this, and I apologize if I am breaking any forum rules, I don't mean to.

IRL, I am a Financial Management Analyst for the Federal Gov...(I know, snoozeville to most) I work for an agency that provides services to other agencies. Anyway, we had a Financial problem, and after back and forth e-mails, someone over at an Army Installation we have an agreement with called me. Long story short, she asked me to e-mail her the details of my analysis to her, so she could present it to her Commanding Officer. This was a couple of weeks ago. I did, and thought nothing of it.. until I received this e-mail.

"Ms. Bogie, sorry for not responding until now, but I am overseas on tour in Iraq, and access to the internet is limited"

Now this really throws me. I look at the e-mail address. I had forgotten to include the middle initial of the person who had called me, and this soldier out in Iraq with the same name got my e-mail. It wasn't a common last name either which really made it even more touching to me frankly..  Just the fact that this poor soldier is out there in the desert, so concerned about this stupid e-mail I sent that she takes the time to respond, and to APOLOGIZE for not responding sooner..I was just so choked up I could barely read on. Just made me really think. I DO have so much to be thankful for.

I will love him and squeeze him and pet him and call him George!!

It's stuff like this that makes me wish forums has "like" buttons similar to facebook. Sometimes the best response to something is just a virtual nod, and personal, silent reflection. Having said that, I think your post was thoughtful and sincere and I'll definately keep its principle in mind as I go to sleep tonight.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

Yes, I'm thankful for things too, but that story was touching. Reminds me how lucky I am.

I don't think that is off topic at all Bogie, I think it's lovely!
We don't have Thanksgiving in New Zealand, but I think it is a great holiday.
This may seem a bit silly, but I just watched 'My Sister's Keeper' at the movies, and I gotta say that right now I am so thankful that my family is healthy.
That's my little (heartfelt) contribution, I hope you all have an awesome holiday  :)

We don't have this kind of holiday here in Denmark but it would be nice if we did.

We also had troops in Iraq until recently and still in Afghanistan. One of them was killed yesterday and today it's not even in the news anymore. He was 23 years old.

My boss is in Washington DC right now halfway through a 6 months sabbatical/research project at NIH and he sent us all a Thanksgiving email today. He said that for many Americans Thanksgiving is one of the only holidays they get all year. He seemed to be implying we should be thankful for our paid vacation. I am. I get 6 weeks like most people.

Happy Thanksgiving to all Simmers. :)

Thank you for those very nice posts everyone...here in US we do take Thanksgiving for what it is meant for, being thankful for everything we have, personally, family-wise and country-wise.

I just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, whether in US or not and especially happy day to everyone in armed forces overseas...you're our greatest treasures!  :-*

Oh and just to keep on topic, all my simmies are decked out and some are even going to have stuffed turkey later, even though the leftovers will spoil quickly. ;D

You can make them eat two plates so they'll all be stuffed, more realistic right? :D
