Thinking About Getting The Sims 3 and Supernatural Package
« on: December 28, 2014, 11:36:43 AM »
So Walmart I think has the two-pack where you get The Sims 3 and Supernatural so you don't have to find each game on it's own since you need The Sims 3 to play Supernatural right?  I haven't played PC games in such a long time, probably since the last The Sims expansion pack I bought which was the one before Making Magic.  Yeah, it's been a long time.  I've been playing The Sims games on console since they became available after that.

I know everyone is moving forward onto The Sims 4, but I wanted to play a game with vampires.  I thought about getting the Sims 2 Nightlife but I don't know if the vampire aspects are very limited or if they are about the same as in Supernatural.

I also wanted to know if each supernatural being has its own build/buy mode stuff exclusive for that being.  I read that you don't really get coffins for vampires just stone things.  But, I didn't know if you had more gothic type stuff for vampires and maybe magical stuff for faries, etc.

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot.

Thanks in advance for answers.

You're right about the lack of coffins, but fairies have little houses where they can sleep, drink pollen punch, and throw parties. Even toddlers can see to there own needs. Witches ride brooms and have wands. I haven't played much with werewolves. Supernatural may be my favorite expansion just because of the alchemy skill and new plants and mushrooms. There is furniture and clothing that seems to suit the different life states.

If you are interested in content that includes both vampires and the gothic themed stuff, you would be better of getting Sims 3 and Supernatural together than Sims 3 and Late Night.  While Late Night introduced the vampires and Supernatural just included them for those who didn't already have Late Night, most of the extra content in Late Night is more night-life oriented in general than geared toward the vampire aspect.

There is some occult-specific stuff. What comes to mind to me are the witch items like the broom and the wands, and the fairy houses. I'm not sure if the vampire altars were included in Supernatural or they were only in Late Night, since I already had Late Night when I installed Supernatural.  I don't think werewolves have any specific items, but it's my least favorite occult from that expansion so I've hardly played it and might be wrong.

There are also a couple of gothic themed sets in the Sims 3 store, which you might want to look for on the daily deal or use the bonus 1000 sim points you would get from registering your game. Grim's Ghastly Manor and Midnight Hollow as a store town would go well with the vampire stuff.

Thanks everyone.  I think Supernatural is a better way to go, because if I got Late Night I may get tired of Vampires and Supernatural has other Supernatural entities I can play around with.  I also thought about maybe getting Pets for PC.  I have it for PS3 but the PS3 doesn't include Unicorns and I was bummed out at that having not found that out beforehand, but it's still fun.

Anyway, thanks again for the help. :)

I went to Walmart today but they didn't have the two pack for The Sims 3 and Supernatural.  They did have Supernatural but no The Sims 3 for PC.  They have a section for older games and they had quite a few of The Sims 3 expansion packs but no base game.  So, I got a Walmart gift card and just ordered the bundle.  The Sims Supernatural is a digital code.  I'm not sure where I'm going to have to go to get the code but I guess I'll find out.

Also, about the Sim points, do you earn those in the game or do you have to physically buy them?  Also, can you buy the Grim Reaper?  I know he was free on the exchange at one point but I don't know if he still is but I didn't know if he was available for the bundle I'm getting.

OK so I bought what I thought was a physical copy of The Sims 3 and I thought it would come with a digital download of The Sims 3 Supernatural but apparently they're both digital copies.  There was no shipping charge obviously but I figured for around $32 I would get something physical.  It took the rest of the afternoon but I finally got my email from Walmart and had to download Origin and downloaded and installed both games so they're both ready to play.

Now, one last question, my laptop doesn't have an actual mouse just the rectangular pad thing at the bottom where you move your fingers around and left and right click are below it.  Should I purchase a mouse, would it be easier to play?

I've never tried using an external mouse - it seems to work fine on its own.

I use my touch pad, not a mouse. I find that it's easier on my shoulder which I injured about 50 years. If you ever find Ambitions on sale, I would recommend that expansion too. It includes professions (firefighter, investigator, ghost hunter, etc.) and the option of self-employment in skills like painting and sculpting. It really adds to the game.

Last question, sorry...

I've heard of zombies coming into your yard and wrecking stuff.  Is it like a zombie mob that comes randomly?  Do fences stop them from coming into your yard?  I'd hate to have a nice yard and have zombies come and destroy everything.  I ask these questions so I am more prepared.  ;D

Fences stop them most of the time unless they spawn inside the fence.

They only come on full moons so you can turn off full moons if it annoys you.

They can be stopped eating your garden by putting a fence around it and lock the gates. If you get late night, the gate with the call box will stop them from entering your yard completely. I always put some garden plants out in the front of the gate to the yard which seems to keep them eating the plants there instead of trying to get into the garden.

While I'm a huge fan of The Walking Dead, I do not like zombies in my Sims games. I set the moon to a single phase, waxing gibbous I think, and avoid the situation altogether. Fences work too, but if the fenced area is too large, they will spawn inside.

As far as I know, the only Grim Reaper supplied by EA/Maxis is the NPC one from the base game but it's pretty easy to extract him as a playable Sim with mods.  I think someone loaded one up to the Swap Shop a while back - or I have one I could send you if you want.

Sure, that would be good thanks, in response to sending. :)   I'm not sure how to download it though.  Sorry I'm very new at this.  Would it work in supernatural or only in the base game?
