Using Late Night features in other towns...
« on: October 27, 2010, 09:26:27 PM »

I thought it might be useful to have a place where we could all discuss how well the features from Late Night work with the other towns.  Then if there are any issues, we'll have a place to keep track of them.  Basically, just describe your experiences here.

So far I've tried loading up an old saved game in Twinbrook.  I changed the Red Rendezvous to a "dance club" and it seems to work okay.  I just changed the bar and the dance floor.  A Mixologist automatically showed up, and a couple of paparazzi.  The only issue I had is it took a while before the Mixologist started "working."  I installed a place to play gigs, but I don't have a band together yet.  Btw, it seems like other Sims can join your band even if they have no music skills.

I got invitations from other Sims to go to their parties.

I haven't seen any celebrities yet.

And I was slightly disturbed to discover my old boss had turned into a vampire! :D

I was curious as to if you could transfer a "turned Sim" vampire from Bridgeport into other towns. I was able to do that so then I started a new game in Barnacle Bay just to see what would happen. I  installed the Haunt from the community buildings library and I installed a penthouse high rise. So far it seems to be just fine. My Sims are getting invited to parties, jamming at the Haunt, paparazzi and celebrity sightings abound.

 Cry

I just started playing Late Night, and I tried to put the new community lots into my sunset valley game. But it doesn't work! I click to place a copy, and nothing appears at the mouse, nothing on the map at all! It works fine for the new highrise apartments, but not for the bars, etc. I am quite upset - I was really looking forward to playing LN with sunset valley. I don't want to play bridgeport.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix it? Or experiencing the same problem?

Why don't you want to play Bridgeport?

I don't like the idea of only singles/couples, no families, and I am kinda attached to the families I am already playing in sunset valley. I checked for this problem on the sims site, and I am not the only one experiencing it, but no solutions yet. :(

Ah I worked it out! A tip on the sims3 website forum gave me a clue. I was right to put down new (big enough) lots first, but I hadn't changed them to community lots! Now that I have, I can place the new buildings! I'm happy!

There are houses and apartments large enough for families.  I've seen 2, 3, 4, and 6 bedroom places.  Some are already occupied, but not all.  And there's empty lots for building your own.  Again, not many, but they are there.  You know I'm not going to live for long without nooboos!  :)

Yeah, and remember if you want to place one of the big apartment buildings it will have to be changed to Residential.

Oh that is good news! I normally hate every town apart from SV! But I will cope without my landscaping for a bit! :D

In one of my SV towns, I put down the Plasma club, Movie studio and The Grind.  So far it has been great.  I bulldozed the houses on Pinnocle point to see if they would go in.  Had to put a couple of lots in, but that is fine.  Had a sim pass away already, in the bathroom no less.  Just funny to see sims that I have played with dance on tables, lol.  After a while when you start playing an old town, vampires and movie stars start showing up.  That is why I went ahead and put down the studio and plasma club.  This game rocks so far. :)

Why don't you want to play Bridgeport?

I don't know what pallyndrome's reason is but right at the moment I'm not that fond of Bridgeport either. I play in windows mode and I'm not sure if that's the reason but I find the new town a LOT to get used to. Sims 3 is the first version I've played so I never had experience with apartments and other things. It just seems a little overwhelming. I tend to build one story homes without a lot of clutter and I don't like large homes.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the new EP but I'd like to get used to some of the new skills and things to do before I plunge back into Bridgeport. So far my favorite town is Barnacle Bay with it's smaller homes. It's easy to enlarge them as I need to. I'm starting off by putting a high rise there and adding clubs and other venues as I go.

I agree, it is harder to navigate, but since I have been playing it, have gotten use to all the turns you have to do and love it more as I play.  In my opinion it is amazing what they have done and I can't wait to play more in other towns and see who shows up, meaning, vampires and movie stars.  Will be interesting.

I'm glad it worked out and I have another answer for you also.  Every once in a while the game will not allow me to put down a building. The lots are big enough and I've changed the lot type but it still won't let me put it in. I found that if I bulldoze the lot and then change it to the type I need the game will then allow me to place the building. Just a glitch I have I guess.

I want to put that building in Sunset Valley so that the film career can be possible, but what type of community lot should it be? I don't see anything career related for the community lot types.  :-\
