Do police appear automatically when kids break curfew?

Just wondering if the cops come immediately when kids break curfew. I had a strange experience where my family of 8 + 2 pets was doing a 2am move. They were all heading out, and they hailed a taxi to pick them up. Well, as soon as the teens and kid stepped off the property, a police car came rushing up to the front drive and a cop got out. The family jumped in the taxi and rode away, and the policeman scratched his head and had a question mark in his thought bubble...
...It was hilarious.

Well, I haven't let the kids out after curfew since.

Weird, I had my kids out with their parents at a nightclub. It was 3am when they went home and no cops showed up. But when I had the same teen out alone at the nightclub after the curfew alert came up, the cops were right there taking her home.

I don't think they come immediately, you might've had bad luck or something? I've had my teens out after curfew at least twice without cops showing up.

It was so strange because I had already pressed the "go home" button  and my sim was stalling about leaving and the police charged in and took her home. The second time that happened, I teleported her to her bedroom so the police hung around the club for a while then left.

The police will come if a teen or child is out alone after curfew.  However, it's ok if they are out with their parents.

On the console version you get a pop-up message telling you your sim is out past curfew and if they don't get home soon the police will come.  Before that you get a message saying curfew is in a few hours or something like that and to get your sim home.  As stated this only happens when your sim is by themselves.  The second message appears after curfew as sort of a warning.
