To deflect the scandal, you go to Steve's Business Complex and you can choose to deflect it there.  I have tried this option a few times, and it never seems to work for my sims, or it does and I still have the negative moodlet.

I have found the best option is to pay off the papparazzi, costs more then trying to sue, but it seems to be the only failsafe option to get rid of the moodlet right away.

Thank you :)

The exception to these options are kids, elementary age so far ... might be high school as well, which I just ran into tonight.

One of my vamp sims daughters, as soon as she aged up, she got 3 star status (both parents are 5 star without trying).  After less then a week at that age, she was accused of being arrested!  There was no option at any of the buildings, this seems to be a silly mechanic in the game.

Is this already known here, the better your mood the higher the chance you will win if you try to sue those who spread bad things about you.
Besides that: appearance seems to be an issue here too: my sim has exploded himself after trying to explode garbage while he was standing by too close and than BAM. Totally black he tried to clear his name at the city hall, with no luck. But after a quick shower he did win.
I had tried this two times actually, because I closed without saving first, I thought.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the moodlet when one is visiting another country (short of cheating)?
My 5 star celebrity was accused of woohooing in public and he still has 7 days of his vacation left.  The accusation was false as he and his 5 star wife were getting nice and cosy in their room in Champs Les Sims when the paparazzi barged into the room and started taking pictures.
Now everyone is booing him and soon he won't want to leave his room.

I use the Moodlet Manager for that.

Thanks Pam. His son has that item in his inventory and I left him home this trip. Oh well, I guess I will just send them both home early as they were only there for her to deliver a book.

Edit: 12-6-2010.  I sent my celebs home and the moodlet did not appear once they arrived home.  I guess the tabloids in France aren't read in Bridgeport.  ;)

I've been accused of fighting which was false, I sued and won! Then I was accused of cheating which was true lol but I still sued and won that one too!  ;D

I feel like my celebrity Sims are being disgraced all the time. The most unusual was when my two star celebrity slept with her three star vampire husband and the scandal was, "Sleeping with the Occult". Lost a ton of friends. Another Sim got scandalized for cheating on his partner - and then had to deal with that partner's broken heart moodlet too! I guess she reads the tabloids...

I had exactly this in the base camp, which I suppose is technically public property... what amused me was when I had the accused use the dismiss rumors action on the paparazzi that took the pictures... and she believed it... I was like, wow, gullible, if you believe my say so over the evidence of your own camera

Mi sim got humiliated for peeing herself to (which might have been true... I wasn't really paying attention to her then), but she also was scandalised for not paying her bills! the guy came over and took her booshelf with LOTS of cool books inside... and somehow it turned into a public scandal. I really don't know how they knew this though because there was no papparazzi around at the moment. Surely the guy went straight to the tabloids afterwards lol.

I don't think there's any connection between the paparazzi and public humiliations.  In other words, you can suffer public humiliations even if no paparazzi see you.

...which makes me wonder, why have paparazzi at all?  But I guess they're just there for decoration.

I think all the paparazzi do is follow your sim, take lots of pics and write in their little notebook! The only positive thing that comes from them that I have noticed is the positive moodlet from being noticed by them and I think it's only like +12. That's with OE I know it would be lower without it.

Does anyone else think that public humiliation isn't funny anymore? (From the title of this thread.)  I've got an Immortal Dynasty family with 8 Sims and I'm so tired of the public humiliation stuff.  It seems like someone is going to City Hall to sue for slander every day.  And my 8th generation Child keeps getting hit with it and he can't sue, so he just has to bear the negative moodlet for three days and loss of friends.  Then, just when it's about to be free of it, he gets hit with it again!  It's very hard on the little guy.

It never did seem funny to me.  I got so fed up with the negative moodlets and loss of friends that I wound up uninstalling Late Night.  At first I thought I'd just avoid having my sims become celebrities, but when one of my characters became a celebrity just from socializing at work, I realized it wasn't possible to avoid it.

Well, they recently added the option to "suppress opportunities" in the Options menu.  I suspect in the future they'll add an option to disable Celebrities too.  I've seen lots of complaining about it on the other forums.  Schipperke is certainly not the first person to uninstall it just to avoid Celebs.

Too bad, with a little more tweaking these new features could be really good!
