The music it plays when you get a pop up about being Publicly Disgraced is creepy. Especially if it's 11 pm, the room is totally silent, and dark, and you were not expecting it in any way. I don't think I'll sleep very well tonight. :o
I agree. Just imagine having headphones on and everyone is busy and not making any noise. Then it plays and you about jump out of your skin!  ;D

Therefore, this game shouldn't be for all ages. Poor little Simstar... :P

Remember folks, The Sims 3 is a very scarifying horror game, especially if you play it for too long.

Do you think the public humiliation is random (when false)?  I thought it was because my sim forgot to attend a party or a friendship status with someone deteriorated into acquaintance.  It did seem to coincide.

So my Sim has been publicly humiliated many times but they are all true.

1)Wohoo with occult. (she married a vampire and they tried for a baby)
2)Peed on self (she was pregnant and in the middle of cooking)
3)Starting a fight (I couldn't help it. The other Sim was flirting with her husband!)
4)Wohoo in an elevator with occult (Have to keep relationships spontaneous you know)
5)Biting another Sim in public (She was thirsty and her best friend was right there)

When I looked at this list I realized that my Sim is like a real life celebrity. The paparazzi are all over her. :D

Hmmm, that actually sounds pretty logical, although I can't confirm it myself. Maybe it also has something to do with the relationship your sim had with the sim who had started the public humiliation. I mean, the relationship is probably in the negative.

I think it's just random, and having the Lucky trait doesn't seem to affect it at all.

It's making the Immortal Dynasty a lot more challenging, too.  My current founder is moments away from eating Ambrosia, but as soon as she works to repair her relationships that were damaged because of a false rumor, another false rumor comes out.  She's been falsely accused 3 days in a row, and I'm not even exaggerating.

This has made me wonder:  does removing the negative moodlet with the Moodlet Manager make it possible for another rumor to come out?  I don't remember getting this many false accusations this close together before I had it.

I think that you should be able to choose whether you wanted to be a celebrity or not, like in the Sims Superstar. With that expansion, being a celebrity was your whole career, and you didn't get celebrity status if you didn't want it. Maybe they could change it a bit though, so that being a celebrity was like a part time job in addition to your normal one.

Actually, I think it's a lot more realistic like this.  In reality, you don't go out and consciously try to become a local celebrity, and occasionally it happens when someone would rather it wouldn't.  I just think it increases far too easily, even without the Star Quality trait.

My homeless Sim teen recently became a celebrity. Turns out that the family she had been mooching food off of as a child were famous. The paparazzi are all over her. Even took pics of her sleeping on a public lot.
She has been publicly disgraced 6 times so far! 4 for having stuff repossessed (they took her bench!), 1 for fighting (with Dad because she got dragged in after curfew) and 1 for passing out (you try sleeping on one of those park benches) Luckily she not gotten any gifts for being famous. I guess I could let the more expensive ones just sit in the family inventory and sell the cheaper gifts for rent.

My sim was publicly disgraced twice as a 5 star in one game: once for wohooing an occult (who happened to be her husband) and the second time for public wohooing in a tent in a tomb while on vacation in Egypt.
I Have successfully sued for the wohooing an occult, but she lost at first, then I sent her right back into city hall and she won. For Egypt, there is no city hall, so she just went home (it doesn't show outside of Egypt).

In another game, she a Matt Hamming wohooed in the elevator at the Brightmore (husband and wife, both 5 star) and he was the one publically disgraced though it was her idea!

I haven't got Sims 3 yet but was considering getting it and all EP/SP for it. This thread is making me consider not getting Late Night. This thread gives me the impression that public humiliation is almost game breaking. Is this true?

Well, honestly it does get very annoying, and it makes you lose friends sometimes but I think the benefits to the EP (vampires!!) outweigh the negative of the public disgrace.

It's just realistic. Something that just comes with being a celebrity. Just don't do anything stupid and you will be fine. I've never played with vampires myself (it's not my kind of thing) but I I see the option to get free items as a outweighted benefit. If you can't use it, don't like to sell it either, you also can turn it into scrap if you have Ambitions.
