For sims who need to be focused a lot for their aspiration or career, genius is a great trait.  Likewise for creative with artsy sims.  The moodlets they get every so often save time and effort in getting them into the optimal mood for a task.

If we're counting the "I completed my aspiration" traits, I think my favorite is webmaster.  "Research binge" and "internet stalk" are both so incredibly useful.

I always liked webmaster for the ability to make connections at the Sim's current job, raising their job performance.  I never tried internet stalk.  What does it do?

While I've completed Computer Whiz, I actually haven't experimented with Webmaster. I'll have to try that time, seeing as it comes so highly recommended.

If we're talking about Aspiration Traits, I rather like Expressionistic. The ability to paint any emotional paintings at any time is incredibly convenient. Also Vicarious and Patriarch/Matriarch from the family aspirations. They're incredibly broken if you're willing to put in the effort to complete the aspirations.

My personal favorite :

1. Foodie.
True at the beginning of a sim life this trait is useless since they wont get moodlet for low skill cooking meals, absolutely hate low skill drink at bar. However once you unlock gourmet cooking it all change. Simcity Cheesecake (lvl 5 Gourmet recipe) give +3 happy moodlet and lvl 7+ gourmet recipes at excellent are guaranteed to give you +4 6h happy moodlet all the time. Other non foodie sims have to grab impeccable to get such bonuses and even that is not consistent at all. Lvl 7+ drink is also guaranteed to give you +3 happy from ambrosial beverage. I don't think many know this, but in sims 4 you can actually make your sims drink while eating food. First you must prepare the drink and the meals in fridge, and then select the food first and after that grab the drink. This make in one go, you have +7 Happy moodlet in one dining session, a very powerful one indeed that could be paired of any positve emotions that you want (except playful maybe to avoid accidental death)

2.Loner
I always like to make one sims household so this one is a natural choice, free +1 happy anytime and even the drawback of this trait can be remedied by buying reward trait to eliminate embarrassed and tense moodlet.

3.Cheerful
Since I love jack of all trade sims, this one is particularly helpful since it doesn't randomly give inspired / focused / confident / playful when I don't need them. It also has no drawback unlike creative and genius that become tense if you don't do any related activity.

My favourite (but not necessarily the most useful) trait is Romantic - I love making couples that are both Romantic, I enjoy using the romantic socials, so for the way I play the game, it helps my Sim's emotions along and is quite useful. But unless you are aiming for a Serial Romantic (which I don't do), it doesn't have much practical use for me. But it's still my favourite trait. I am also in love with the Companion Reward Trait, for similar reasons.

Practically, though, I can't go past Art Lover or Music Lover - they give such useful moodlets. And I feel justified in buying nice decorative items or having music on all the time as well - a nice perk for me.

I always liked webmaster for the ability to make connections at the Sim's current job, raising their job performance.  I never tried internet stalk.  What does it do?

I've never used the make connections option it. So that's what that does. It does sound useful.

Internet stalk lets you learn about a sims's traits without having to socialize with them. So if you just briefly met a sim, it can help avoid the nasty surprise of finding out that they have traits you can't stand, or that the attractive prospective romantic interest you met at the park is totally incompatible with your sim.

Making money turking is also nice, but in general you make more money hacking at that level, assuming your sim doesn't spend so much time hacking that all the options are grayed out.

I've never managed to complete the family aspiration ones.  Are the skill boosts ones that stack with aspiration point purchasable traits like savant, night owl, and morning person?

I knew Foodie was powerful, but I didn't realize it was that amazing.  I did notice that a fresh-from-CAS sim with the master mixologist aspiration (and hence the foodie trait) could make breakfast for his roommates on a cheap stove while uncomfortably hungry, and not only have it not be poor quality, but more importantly, he did not set the house on fire making eggs.  With any other unskilled sim, you might as well hand them a box of matches and lighter fuel if you try that.

I love the romantic trait for storytelling, but my sims always end up tense from not flirting enough.  Do your romantic sims play out as faithful types, as far as their whims go?  Or if they have a partner, do they still wish to flirt with other sims?

I don't normally play romantic Sims, but I think all my Sims get whims like this, married or not.  At least if they have a lot of friends from completing friend of the world or something.  If they don't know anyone it won't show up.

@Cheezey I'm unsure if Vicarious/Matriarch stacks with skill boosting rewards, but I believe so. Even if they don't they're still incredibly powerful.

I believe romantic whims are completely independent of the trait itself, and possibly even relationship status. I haven't noticed a drastic increase in wishes like that when my sim is a romantic, and honestly haven't received these type of wishes that much at all, even having ran through serial romantic multiple times. When I do get these kind of wishes, it's only ever when the sim and the person they're wishing about have a very high relationship, or are only friends.

In my legacy one of my sims kept rolling wishes to flirt with my founder, despite being married to her daughter! Neither he or my founder had the romantic trait, and he had a better relationship with the daughter than the founder. Otherwise, my sims all seem as chaste as monks.

True. It's been a while since I played a romantic sim, so I didn't remember if they got more of those wishes than the non-romantics. I've seen my sims in good relationships get random wishes to flirt with an acquaintance or friend in the neighborhood (when it says the wish came from the target sim being nearby, but not necessarily visiting the house) but maybe it's got something to do with whether they've been using flirty socials with their partner in the recent short term context. Perhaps if that's the case, the game throws that out there because the sim has a history of using socials in that category, and it seems like a logical choice of whim to try and fulfill.

That's good to know about Vicarious and Matriarch. Thanks.

I think I have to agree with Ciosa -- for me, insane is the most fun of all the traits.  Having two insane sims under the same roof is more fun to watch than a waterfall of kittens.

Still, for practical reasons most of my sims end up with the Romantic trait.  I always send them to work/school with orders to work/study hard.  Then when they come home all tense and grumpy they just indulge in a little romantic interaction with <partner of choice> and all those bad moods go bye-bye!  Happy sims AND better career progression.  Win-win!
