RBBB cheat and building on LN Lots
« on: October 27, 2010, 08:12:54 AM »
As soon as I laid eyes on the Landgraab Brownstone in Bridgeport, my remodel streak began to itch. I've read up on the RBBB (RestrictBuildBuyInBuildings) cheat and the public vs. hidden room markers, and even the level skip markers (all in the readme that came with the game). I have testingcheatsenabled true and buydebug on, so I can see all the markers (though I had to remove a portion of an outer wall to actually see the hidden room markers in the dark void). Yet no matter what I try, I can't get this sucker to let me "see" anything but that upper-most floor that was already available. Everything else just remains blacked out. I really want to try to find a way to "convert" this into a somewhat typical residential lot so I can utilize the entire thing as a single family dwelling, not as apartments.

I've experimented with this both through edit town and simply entering build/buy when occupied, but I've had no luck. So, anyone have a clue as to what I've missed? Surely there has to be SOME way to make this happen. If all else fails, I can load up the game on both computers, and use one as my "blueprint" and build my own copy the old fashioned way. But I'd really rather spend this time remodeling, not rebuilding what is already there. :)

Oh, and my apologies if this should have gone in the building forum instead. I was 50/50  on where to post this, so I shot for here since it's a LN specific building question. I'm sure a mod will move this if it should have been posted elsewhere. *ducks*

Sorry I am not a building at all but it's there a way to change lots from commercial to residential? Maybe it has something to do with that? Just a thought I really have no idea though!

Great minds must truly think alike, I thought the same thing. The lot is already residential, however, and there are no sub-categories for residential as there are for commercial. I even tried changing it to a commercial lot (which deleted a lot of objects on the lot) and then back to residential, to no avail.

There's gotta be a way, it just hasn't been discovered... yet.

It's on your hard disk.  On mine it's here: <C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Late Night\Support>  Yours will be somewhere similar.

Thanks, now that you said it I remember. I think I have "explored BP too long" brain tonight.

You're welcome.  Is there such a thing as "too long"? (My husband would say YES!! ;D)

I think my husband really likes me playing. I play on my laptop in the living room so as far as he is concerned it's the best of both worlds. He gets me sitting in the room with him but he gets to watch what he wants on TV without me complaining about ANOTHER rerun of his current favorite DVD. ;D

Please post again here if you have any luck figuring this out.  I had just assumed that it was impossible to modify the highrise buildings in any way, but if I'm wrong I'd love to hear about it!

Hello everybody, i was reading this thread and started experimenting my self and got this result.

This is the Maloney Tower, the top 3 stories have level skip markers, you can place furniture but not build items.

I'm starting to think that most buildings skip to the top level because they only have a top level, and there are no floors between them.

Yeah.  I think that's the case.  The rest of the building is just an empty void, and I don't think that can be changed.

Yeah, I've looked around the actual high rise apartments and the other "apartments" are actually very small voids (for the most part at least). But that Landgraab Brownstone, that's a full building that would make an AMAZING house, if only I could figure out how to use all that other space. It's only three levels, none of it inside one of those pre-built high rise apartments. I will keep tinkering around with it, because there *has* to be a way. I've been playing The Sims since, well, since the beginning (was even a "Founder" in TSO), and I've always enjoyed building and remodeling, and I can usually find all the work-arounds to build even on the lots we're not supposed to be able to build on. I *will* find the way on this one. :)
