Very dark portraits
« on: October 27, 2010, 01:54:22 AM »
Did a search but didn't find anything that sounded like my problem..

So I started playing with the dynasty challenge in mind, had my sim up and running, found a spouse that I made slave at the easel so I could get the first portrait done.. and the portrait itself is, simply put, horrible.

I know different sims paint different styles but this seems to be a new and 'global' issue in my game. Whatever they (I tried other sims, from other saves, one of which is a highly talented painter with maxed out painting skill as well as having full completion of the skill challenges) and all of them produced dark and blurry portraits. Doesn't seem to matter if the other sim poses for it or if the painter uses their phone to memorize the scene.

I've seen the 'oilpainting' effect a few times in other people's portraits but mine are impossibly dark, despite it beeing day, a ridiculously bright room and even directly aimed spotlights.

I've also messed around with the graphic settings but to no avail. All the default images they paint come out normal so I'm really at a loss as to what is wrong here.

Any ideas?  ???

Sure!

This one was taken by a cellphone. At night, granted, but it was not that dark.

And this one, with the portrait and the 'stylelized still-life' being much darker than the image was when the sim posed for them.

I've had sims paint from memory before and those paintings turned out ok.

This is just my opinion, but here goes.

On the first one, it's probably because it was taken at night.  Is it a painting or a cell phone photograph?  It might not have looked so dark to you, the player, but when the picture/painting is completed, it comes out dark.

The portrait looks fine to me.  They generally aren't light and bright.  My portraits are always a bit darker than what I see in the game.  I think that's just how they are.

The stylized painting is probably dark partly because of the style you chose.  Do you remember which one it was?

Here's a screenshot from my Dynasty game.  You can sort of see how a couple of the portraits look dark, even though they have a snake wall light shining directly on them.

The first one was a photo taken with a cellphone. By a newly-wed hubby who doesn't have any photography skills at all, which in theory could be a reason too.

As for the style, I didn't get to choose. I told the dude to make it stylized just to see how it would come out. These are the better ones, I should add. I let my painter from another save do a ton of em which I simply sold as she made them. One of my previous families (now abandoned) also got a kick out of painting and I can't recall the portraits they made ever being that dark.

Anyway, thanks for replying! I thought there was a problem with my graphics but I guess it's just the old brain playing tricks on me.  ::)

I'd say keep an eye on it and see how future paintings look before you start worrying about graphics issues.  :)

Felt sudden, that's all.  :)
But like I said, thank you!
