What Causes Screen To Freeze
« on: November 13, 2014, 10:05:43 AM »
What causes the screen to freeze while in-game ? I was playing and put the game on pause while I took my dogs out , when I came back five minutes later the screen was frozen . I do this all the time and have never had a problem with it until this morning .
Memories have no expiration date .

Hi, ladybug53.

There are a number of reasons why the game may freeze. Too many to list here, but I can list some of the more common issues:
  • Playing for a long time - The game does take up some computer system resources, even while it is on pause. As you play the game, these resources build up and can eventually fill up the memory allotted to the game. This can cause temporary stuttering or freezing while the system tries to swap things in memory to the hard drive, or even a crash to desktop (CTD). Make sure you save and exit the game every couple of hours to help release those resources.
  • Other Windows programs running - It's best when playing any game to make sure as many other programs are shut down as possible (aside from Origin, of course). This will help alleviate freezing and crashing as well.
Those two account for the majority of crashes for just about any program, not just The Sims 4.

Hope this helps and happy Simming! :)

It is very possible that I was playing for way more than two hours .  :P I tend to forget as I always get so involved in my game but the clock keeps ticking without me noticing . I'll try and give my computer a rest more often . Thanks so much for your advice !

Edit : I forgot to say that I always play offline if this makes any difference .

No, it doesn't make a different whether you're playing online or offline.
