I haven't done a single gig!  How do you get them?  I'm thinking about possibly renting a venue and throwing my own concert!  My band members are not members of my household.  They are just random townies I saw busking.  But there must be something I'm doing wrong, or not enough, or something.  Any ideas?

Well, as far as I know, you just have to get 4 sims in your band, and then wait for the phone to ring.  At first I had a gig every few days, but now they seem to have disappeared.  Honestly, at this point, I still don't know which features are working correctly and which have bugs.  Like everyone else, I'm hoping a patch will improve things somewhat..

Carl wants me to do a band article for the Guide soon. I'd love to complete the Gig Master Challenge, but I'm wondering if I'll be able to finish that in my lifetime.

They'll fix that when they fix the broken challenge for guitar...which means probably never.  :D

I have Late Night installed, but haven't played it yet. My Barnacle Bay family's teen did a school project at the science center, and afterwards she pulled out her guitar and started getting tips. She had done this on her own, but when I saw the small change coming in, I realized she had a crowd of about 6 people. With no idea what I was doing I directed her to jam. Then I invited one of the audience to join the jam, so he plays drums, and another, bass, and another, drums. It seemed that everyone (all strangers to her) had an instrument at the ready in his inventory. Each player had a tip jar, except for my guitarist with her open case. One observer remained to throw in tips, and the last observer was an obviously unimpressed paparazza. I'm not even sure they were playing the same song, but it was funny that everyone wanted to join in when asked. Finally it was her curfew, so they all left the entrance to the science center and went home. This all strikes me as very funny!

Reading your experiences, it could be that you need to do some impromptu public jams to get the buzz going. Mine were untalented nobodies, but the paparazza was there. For you guys, she could have been the beginning of a word of mouth chain leading to new gigs.

Just sayin'.

I have not done gigs yet either, but that is next on my agenda.  Unfortunately, weekends I work long hours, so will not really get to play until Tuesday, ugh.  Oh well, then on my three days off, I pull sim marathons, only sleeping when I can't hold my head up, lol. :)

So I just realized that if you do a public Jam session, it's the same as playing for tips.  Each person in the Jam session will collect their own tips.   Which, of course, makes me wonder, if "Jamming" and "Playing for Tips" are the same thing, why do we need both options?  Can't the designers of this game streamline anything?  Ugh.

I may have to quit playing Late Night until the next patch comes out, it's starting to drive me nuts.

I had a wedding party for two of my celebrity sims and the party guests started breaking out their instruments and playing for tips at the wedding. Some of them could not play to beat out the grim reaper so I was not happy, but my sims did not seem to mind.

Jamming would be playing with a group (sharing tip money) and playing for tips the money is all yours.

I'll let you know how much I lose if I do get mugged, but so far, more money for me than outside the theater!

:D

My Sim lost about $200, but then I did have him busking until he was starving and needed to sleep and he made more than $2,000, so who cares! He got mugged really early in the busking session though, so I'm not sure if they take a percentage or not.

I think if you're jamming each person has their own tip jar, so you make the same amount of money as playing for tips.

Maybe in a jam session you get more tips than usual when you play alone?

No, that's not the case. One of the main benefits of the Jam Session is that the Social bar and the relationships of all involved musicians get a mild boost.

Hi there,
this webpage helped me a lot, so I decided that I will share with you some of mine experience...

First of all, I already tried to have about 6 bands, and never been successful in gigs. (I even extended the life time to make sure that I  don't have to worry about time... ) But here is what I learned

1. When you form a band, it doesn't matter how many stars as celeb you have, or how much skills do you have in instrument (well at least one is needed to form a band). It DOESN'T matter how many band members are there, you will still get a gig. You should have at least little bit of a relationship with the people to form a band.
Oh, and don't forget to go to the City Hall to register as a band (you don't have to, or you can do it just for a one member.. its doesn't make a difference, just that it means you have a job, so you can get a promotion etc..)
2. You can, but don't have to live with another band members. The good things about living with them is that you can prepare them for the gig (they will have full stomach and empty bladders:) as this is sometimes a problem - when a Sim plays a gig and pee himself, the gig is just canceled and you can wait again forever for the next gig...) the negative about living with the band is that every one of them can have a call proposing a gig- meaning if you have 4 members, you have to keep an eye ALL the time on everyone, pretty annoying...
3. Getting a gig: The first gig WILL appear in one Sim day - at most two... If it doesn't appear, just quit the band, and you can create it again with the same people one second after quitting, no big deal.. (If the gig doesn't appear in one day, you probably missed it, didn't answer the call, or bad luck- so far I didn't have the first gig for my 3 bands from total 6 bands, and I have waited for a couple of Sim weeks)
4. If the first opportunity for the gig appears, be happy and try to come on time with a happy Sim:) After successfully completing the first gig, and get paid, you can wait for another gig. that's really annoying again, because it takes some time- if you are lucky, you get one gig per week, but I've been never so lucky.. sometimes it gets a lifetime lol:(

So the point of being in the band is really not in waiting for the gigs. You can go to the parties every night with your band, jamming together (this is good for improving you relationship with other band members.) Or have one of your band members playing for tips at some interesting locations (the best are cinema, or in front of the restaurant. )
Or go to subway- it seems like a bug, but you make incredible lot of money there!!! I can make 10 000 Simoleons in 4 Sim hours!!!! (Well you need to have skill 10 of your instrument, learn all the songs, perform them all, have virtuoso trait, maybe artistic and celebrity traits also.. And also purchase Opportunistic from the rewards..)
Take all the opportunities you can get- well be careful to finish them quickly! Because if your opportunity list is full, you couldn't receive a phone call offering a gig! Gig will appear in the middle opportunity column, I think it's the skill opportunity.. BUT there is a bug in the game- with the multiple rabbitholes, so delete buildings which have more than one occupation, and import the buddings from Sunset Valley. Sometimes the opportunity which you get still don't work, but sometimes they do... So if you import those buildings, you have a better chance to complete the opportunity..

I hope I helped a little:) and sorry for my English, I'm not native speaker... If you have any questions, or more tips for me I will be happy to read them:)
Good luck and happy simming:)
