Thanks for all the tips, and welcome to the forum.

If you don't mind a correction, my band of two sims who share a household has only level 7 skill and they play for tips separately in 2 different subway entrances. They made more than $40,000 in tips in about 3 or 4 hours, and gained 5 levels of band career in that time!

lol How is that possible?? wau.. But it seems like a prove that huge tips in subway is a bug.

Anyway, now I have 4 girls living together and having a band. I have to say that I'm probably for the first time lucky:) and they get gigs often... I'm going for my 3rd gig now, which someone called me only 1 day after the second gig. I hope it will continue this way:) Just it's not really fun if you have to check all the time if the phone is ringing.
By the way, the first time I earned about 2000 simoleons in gig, but the second time only 1200.. weird

I forget to ask- when you are playing in the subway, your band job experience is increasing?? Not in my case.. And what I read on other forums, people had the same issue as me.

Just since the patch this week, it's now fixed to apply subway tips to band career.

Now, just to make this whole thing more confusing:   I heard that there was a hidden "band skill" that apparently goes up if you jam together and that affects whether or not you get gigs.  This is unconfirmed, though.  Maybe it doesn't affect gig frequency, maybe not.  I find the whole thing annoyingly vague.  But, my point is, if you have trouble getting gigs, try having your band jam together more often and see if that helps...

Has anyone tried to form a band with teenagers?  I can't seem to get it to work.  :-X  I'm trying to give my virtuoso sim a head start but he can not seem to ask anyone to join a band.  I've tried moving people in, raising instrument skill, celebrity asking non celebrity, non celebrity asking non celebrity.  Nothing seems to allow me the ask to form band under the friendly tab.  Help!!!

Thanks,
Jerry

Welcome to our Forum, Jerry.  :)

From what you describe, I'd say that teenagers cannot form bands.  You'll just have to wait until he's a Young Adult.

Thanks, Pam.  I was afraid that would be the answer.  Kind of a bummer.   :-[  It was bad enough they have to wait to become teens to start playing instruments.  But I digress.

Now a question I have is, since I invited townies to my band, does it matter what their skill level is on any of the instruments?

Don't know if anyone has seen the "play for Tips" option in the subway - anytime of night or day Sim can get a ton of cash.  I was in the subway after leaving a bar 3am and between 3:30am and 7am I made $675!   And that was from the early morning crowd. 7:30am - 11am I made $823... Did I mention this was a Monday morning?   Now I have read you could get mugged on the subway but that has yet to happen to me.

I'll let you know how much I lose if I do get mugged, but so far, more money for me than outside the theater!

:D

Another really great place to "play for tips" is in front of the movie theater, I've made over $2000 playing there!
