While it's been determined that teens can't moonlight as a mixologist, can they learn the special drinks when they have the appropriate level?  I've got a teenager getting a jump start on mixology for adulthood, but she hasn't learned a party drink yet...after drinking about 15 of them over the course of 3 nights.

Of course, if she wasn't always getting busted for being out after curfew...:P

Are you talking about the drinks you get at the various clubs?  Just regular party drinks come with a certain level of Mixology skill, like mood drinks and crazy drinks.  The ones from the clubs are called unique drinks, I believe.

Ok I thought I unconfused myself, but apparently not.  :P  So here's where I'm confused:

You need to learn 42 drinks from the clubs for the Professor of Drinks challenge.  But most of those drinks fall into certain categories (party, romantic, energy, etc).  The drink she's been trying to learn is the Llama Head from Waylon's Haunt (it fits into the category of "party drink" the guide says).  The sim's level gives them the opportunity to mix certain categories of drinks, and party drinks is at level 3, which is her current skill level, and I'm aware that there is a generic party drink that can be made.

So could she learn and mix Llama Heads at level 3 (well, probably not mix as a teen)?  Or is there a specific level where sims are able to learn and make these drinks?  And am I correct in assuming that the 25 custom drinks needed for the Cool Creator challenge are completely different drinks altogether?  Or does she maybe need to be an adult to learn unique and custom drinks?

Did you post this before or after reading my article about the Mixology LTW?  Just trying to decide if you're still confused or not.  :)

I posted this after.  That's how I thought I unconfused myself, but after reading your post here, I wasn't so sure lol.  But my point of confusion now revolves around a single concept:

After reading the article, and referencing it with the mixology guide, I had thought the unique drinks learned in the bars fit into the different drink categories unlocked at certain levels.  Do they, or are the drinks learned at the bar unlocked together at a certain level?

The reason I'm picking your brain over this is because I know for sure that you SuperMaxed it during your dynasty, and you wrote the article on the LTW.

The drinks at bars are unique drinks that your Sim has to learn by drinking them.  Sometimes it takes only one drink and other times it takes 4 or 5 drinks before your Sim learns it.  They are learned one at a time by visiting the different bars around town.  I don't know if a teenager can learn them, though.

These same unique drinks do fall under the categories for drinks your Sim can make by advancing through the Mixology skill.  However, just because your Sim can make a particular drink, it doesn't mean he can make all the unique drinks in that category.  He still has to learn the unique drinks by drinking them.  The point of a unique drink also having a category is that your Sim will experience different moodlets depending on what kind of drink it is.  He can also have a temporary change of traits.

I hope this helps and if you have more questions, please ask.  :)

Ok that has pretty much answered my question.  Thank you very much!

I currently believe that teenagers can't learn these drinks, much in the same way they can't moonlight as a mixologist.  Over the course of 5 nights, she drank close to 20 of the same drink without learning it.  But she's currently 1 day from young adult, so pretty soon it's not going to matter anymore anyways lol.  At least she didn't have to spend any of her adult life gaining a rudimentary knowledge of the skill.

:-[  My apologies, I'm new, and I can't really handle the search well (too broad in scope for me).
(Yes, I promise that is the only smiley I'm using in this post).

My girl (sim)  has the opportunity to name a drink after a Sim; she practiced until she got it right (6 tries) and I was maniacal about typing his name correctly... but she hasn't gotten the Opportunity reward. What am I doing wrong?  Thank you.

Welcome to our Forum, DMDye!

To name a drink after a Sim, you need to use that interaction when talking to the other Sim.  There's one called "Name Drink After" that's either in the initial group of interactions or under the Friendly interactions.  A window will open showing all the drinks your Sim has created and you just choose one of those drinks to be renamed after the other Sim.

I hope this helps.  :)

Oh wow! I would have never figured that one out.  I will test - is it OK if I hug you if that works for me? (forum rules weren't clear on that)
(the game has been driving me out of what little mind I have left, lately)

[eta] That worked beautifully, Thank you!! I'm holding out on the *HUG* until I get clarification on the rules. ;)

So I've been skilling up Mixology, and creating lots of my own drinks as I go.  But a lot of them are bad or even foul quality!  Is there a way to remove these unpalatable drinks from my Sim's recipe book?

Welcome Zeda :)

There is no known way to delete them from book, but you can sort list by quality so you won't see them until you scroll down ;) Also, you can name one of those foul drinks by your enemy or disliked Sim, like a little simlish revenge!

They change quality level when you give your sim the Better Mixologist LTR.

As your Mixology skills increase, try making that drink again and again.  Drinks are like food dishes, harvestables, fish, etc where they improve in quality the more you make them.

And as Jonna said, the Better Mixologist LTR will also help improve those drinks.
