Leto, "moonlighting" is a term for doing a second job, usually in the night or evening.

Ok after playing a bit today I have this to report. There is a premade Sim in Bridgeport that lives in one of the high rise apartments with a vampire his last name is something with an S and first maybe Richie or that may be his brother but the vampire her last name is Talon if that helps. Anyways it says in the bio of him that he wants to become a mixologist and will he be successful enough to quit his job? Or something along those lines which leads me to believe there is money to be made in mixology somehow?

That's how mixologists make fast cash, moonlighting as a bartender...though I think there should have been an actual career track involving it.

I started one out last night she made 56 one night at level 5-6 mixology so it's a viable way for your sim to make a living. Just remember to hit the hotspots and get your mixologists celebrity level up to get into them. I'm sure someone more dedicated(Metro) could make tons of money from it.

Thanks for the list of Mood Drinks TommyT, it really helped me. I saved a lot of time Alt-tabbing and recording info for the new Mixology Guide I'm sure it's not perfect, but should be helpful for folks. That one was rough!

Hello, new here, but love Carl's guide (it has saved me many times :) ). Just wanted to add from the prima guide the party drinks are listed as:
Party Drinks: These concoctions affect parties and how much Fun other Sims have at them. Every party drink mixed improves the overall score for the party, increasing the chance that when it's finally time for guests to shuffle on home, the party is deemed a success. That's good for relationship building with party attendee.
Not sure what effect it has on a Sim at a club though.

Thank you! I guess my hunch was right. I had something very similar there :)

What do people think about maybe removing one or two of the bars?

I sent 3 of my sims to different bars on the same night and in each of them there was about 3-4 people.  It seems like there are just too many bars for the population in the city.

Even before LN, there were juice bars you could buy and place in your home. Now my sim gets an option to mix juices, or something like that. Can Mixology be learned and practiced on one of the original juice bars, or do you need to buy a special LN juice bar?

Per the Prima Guide, any bar can be used to develop this skill.  You can mix any regular drinks on the normal bars, but advanced Mixology skill actions such as creating a new drink or creating a mood-altering drink are only available on the new Professional Bars.
There are also three skill books to jump-start your career.   :)

At level 3 you need to move up to the professional bars, but you can get started on a normal bar. All the pubs/clubs in town have pro bars, but you can't really practice mixing types of drinks and come up with your uniques there. You eventually need to drop about $1700 on the cheapest pro bar, other is 2k.

Can you save up drinks like nectar in shelfs or put bottles in the refrigerator?

I'm missing something obvious. I have mixologist level 8, 2 star celeb. He created 11 unique drinks, and served around 300 of them, mostly at home practicing, most of them are now perfect or outstanding. He moonlight in hot spots every night, he ordered a lot of same drinks and still he hasn't learned any recipe!? I would really use a hint here.
And another question, since people keep ordering food, is there a way to increase quality of those? recipes are not buyable, and he can't serve it at home, And I have no idea what ingredients can be used for food. So far I figured he can stock bar with all harvestables, but jet to discover how he use them (things like is he using salad to make a drink ;D)

EDIT: He DID use salad and some tomato for Sorrow Annihilator (with Veggies), it's very nice one, and he choose veggies over apples and cherries, all same quality.

Since I'm alone on forum now, here is what I find out so far:
(and since I'm still alone I'll edit this same post)

When stock bar, harvestables are used in order they are in bar, meaning, what is first in line, will be used first. This seems random. I put 3 pepper, 3 onions, 3 potatoes and 3 garlics. First drink is made with pepper and onion. Second with pepper and potato and third with onion and potato. Garlic is ignored as well as plasma fruit, but my Sim is not a vampire so maybe there is a way to use them. Also, later I added 11 life fruits and 6 flame fruits, and he kept using life fruits until the last one. With other fruits it repeat the pattern as with vegetables, mixing them and using without order.

All mood drinks are created with 2 ingredients. EDIT: it can be created with one and still have a name. I put only one pomegranate and still got extra tropical crazy drink.

They look same regardless of items used in creation (no additional glowing, flames, sparkles etc).

Apples and watermelons made no difference at all. Party drink is still just a Party drink.

Limes in drink made them into (name of mood dring) with a Twist.

If vegetables are used, drink get the name (name of mood drink) with Veggies. That is how I first got Sorrow Annihilator with Veggies. Veggies are salad, tomatoes, onion and potato. Pepper will add (name of mood drink) con Chili. Party drink made of onion and pepper is named Party Drink con Chili with Veggies.

If any type of grapes is used (regular of French) drink is named Bacchanalian (name of mood drink) and that is how you got for example Bacchanalian Crazy Drink.

If using Cherries or Pomegranates (and I yet to test Plums and Pomelos) Drink is named Extra Tropical (name of mood drink) EDIT: tested and yes, plums and pomelos are also extra tropical

If using Flame fruit, drink is called Burning (name of mood drink)

If Life fruit is used, drink is called Lifegiving (name of mood drink)

If combination is used, all names are added, depending of which ingredient is used first. So if you use one life fruit and one flame fruit, in that order, drink will be named Lifegiving Burning (name of mood drink)

Flame and life fruit didn't get additional moodlets (cosy fire nor full of life), it seems that only change is in the name. if drink contain one life fruit, Sim's lifespan is extended (message sad it and in this test game I stopped aging so after all testing my YA now have 28 till Adult on normal lifespan).
If drink is made of 2 life fruits than you got 2 days from one glass. If one fruit is used, then you got one day per glass. This means that one life fruit can be used to extend life for 4 days.

And if you put cursor on glass you can see which ingredients and in which order are used.

All this is the same for unique drinks as well, name prefix and extended lifespan. I have no idea how it works with recipes from bars, but there is an option to choose ingredients for next drink.
