Mixology info thread
« on: October 26, 2010, 09:48:58 PM »
**Find plenty of info in Carl's Mixology article!**

This is an attempt to keep Mixology info organized :)

Here's what I've discovered so far:
In Bridgeport, you learn the Mixology skill at Steve's Business and Restaurant Complex (in the restaurant).
Starting at level 2 you can work in bars, but what one you can work in depends on your skill level.  I spent a lot of time at Waylon's Haunt in the beginning.
Each bar has their own named drinks, ordering these drinks has a chance of teaching you the recipe.  Unknown if certain level of Mixology required for certain drinks.

Mood Drinks:
I forget the exact level I unlocked these at, but I know that they are almost in the right order.  Most of these also give you a Buzz Crashed moodlet (-10) for 4 hours upon expiration of the positive moodlet.
Party Drink: not sure what moodlet this gives.
Energy Drink: 5hrs of Wide Awake moodlet (+10) that will keep you awake no matter how tired you are, but you still get the -points from being tired.  It also gives you the Daredevil trait interactions (take extreme shower until extremely clean, etc.)
Romantic Drink: 2hrs of In The Mood moodlet (+25) the description implies that romantic socials should be easier to give/receive but I've yet to test this
Skill Gain Drink: 4hrs of Cerebral Boost moodlet (+15) increase skill gain rate according to description, haven't verified
Sorrow Annihilator: 2hrs of Wash Away The Worry moodlet (+10) description implies that the drink will remove minor negative moodlets from your Sim, untested
Crazy Drink: 5hrs of Going Wild! moodlet (+30) and completely fills fun meter over the course of an hour or so - and stays filled until Going Wild! expires then decays over time as usual

Mood Drinks take a couple practice runs before you can make them for real.  You'll know you've made a bad one when the glass has clear liquid in it and the rotten cloud above it.  The correct drink is usually in an interesting glass and a vibrant color.  According to the in-game tips unless you practice making these at home (for how long?) you won't be able to successfully serve them at bars which will upset customers.

If you buy the highest priced bar, you can practice mixology skill at home.

I'm sure I'm missing something but I'm finding it impossible to make Mixology a viable income source!  My Sims has level 10 Mixology and has access to every bar in Bridgeport, but no Sims show up - despite me going to only the hotspot bars.  Working at a high-end bar for 10 hours or so pays me about $800.  I have the Mixology LTR as well.  Going to do some further testing and see what the secret is.

Thanks for starting this. I'll make a lot of use of it like I did with Nectar Making in World Adventures. This is my first project.

I have my sim about level 8 in mixology and she has already created about 5 drinks.  Also when you order drinks at the bar, you will gain knowledge in how to make that specific drink and I have gotten a couple of opportunities to fill in for bartenders and like you said, not too many people show up.  All in all, it is rather interesting, to say the least.  I am liking this game so far. ;D

Yeah my Mixo Sims now has every challenge completed and is still broke.  Learning the drinks of the bar you're tending increases your tips, but still doesn't make people show up.  I did 12 hours at Banzai when the paper said it was going to be a Hotspot and served 3 drinks, 2 to the same Sim lol.

EDIT: I don't know what else to say, either I'm missing some incredibly vital part of Mixology or this is not a career option.
Some info on my Sim: 10 Mixo , all challenges done, 5* celeb, all drinks learned at all bars
So I threw a party at Banzai and invited 8 other 5* celebs.  Party started at 2pm when Banzai opened and I bar tended until 2am when Banzai closed.  My bar tending was constantly interrupted by socials from my party guests and I ended up serving about 5 drinks, total income for my 12hr party was $1,057 - btw I was charged $1,000 for having the party there haha.
So I'm guessing this is a 'just for fun' skill, which is strange because every other skill in Sims has a way to give you a steady income - whether through a career or a crafting aspect.

Hopefully I'm missing something that I'll /facepalm myself over, we'll see what Carl comes up with.  In the meantime I'll update this thread as myself and others discover new knowledge.

There is a "better mixologist" reward worth 15,000 points it says with it you make higher quality drinks. You may need that Tommy.

I'd like to hear anyone's experiences in stocking the bar with ingredients -- wondering what Life Fruit might do for drinks' quality, moodlet bonus, or the tip given by receiving Sims.

Very interesting snafu you've uncovered Tommy. It almost sounds like the same predicament with a guitar player playing for tips in World Adventures locations — I could spend two months "training" a guitarist in Sunset Valley, completing all guitar challenges and pushing his performance number past 1000, yet he would not make anything in World Adventures locations compared to playing in front of Sunset Valley's theatre simply do to sheer numbers of Sims.

Didn't one of the preview articles say you could moonlight as a mixologist? Maybe it's not meant to be a career choice.

**Edit** it wasn't a preview, but the actual booklet that came with the game. It lists mixology as a new skill, then goes on to say you can moonlight as a mixologist. It doesn't actually mention it as a career choice. Are you choosing the moonlighting choice?

Nectar Making and Mixology

I don't have Late Night yet  :'(
But hopefully someone who has a copy will answer my question: How does Nectar Making, Mixology, and Gardening interact with each other? Can you use nectar made in the nectar machine for mixology? Or you go directly to the mixology bar and serve the juice without Nectar Making?

Is there the option to choice mixology as a career like from city hall for the self employed? I would guess if not then it probably was not meant to be a career but just a skill. I haven't been able to play yet. Got Late Night yesterday but will not get to play until a little later.  :'(

I have a level 8 mixologist and as far as I can tell there's not a career. I think it's just a cool trait to impress celebrities with. That's most of the use I've gotten out of it..

You can stock the bar with nectar and serve it like normal. Or you can mix drinks.. I'm still trying to figure out what you can also stock the bar with but you definitely don't have to have nectar.

I'm still playing with the vampire and band powers so I've only done some mixology reading and moonlighting at a bar 2x.

But, there is an Opprotunity with a Mixology book - read it and get a reward when you report back in. I suspect  I'll end up with some extra mixology skill as well.
